As we approach May 23rd, The Vintage in Winston Salem comes to mind.
Not sure where the thread on this is so I figured to start a new one.
Has anyone made firm plans for hotel or camping ?

From New England, will anyone be taking the more leisurely 2 day drive down?

E9's at the Vintage

There are really 10 coming. I signed up, but the site listed my tii rather than the coupe in the entrants' list. Couldn't figure out how to change it. But I'll be couping this year.

The Vintage was great!

Speaking from a West Coast perspective, this event is first class and at least up there with Monterey gathering and October Woodley event (which brings back fond memories chatting with Murray in our lawn chairs!).

Anyway, my new best E9 friends, Doug and Stan, were there. The former is new to this forum, I think, with his Korman modified, M5-powered Tundra green CS and Stan, who you all know, with this Coupe King White/Red CS.

There were about 12 - 14 coupes there that I counted and we stood out from the 2002 crowd in my view. But many nice M5s and M6s, 320iS models but not a single M1 that I could find.

Here are some photos and I hope the fuller crowd of E9 folks back east can make this next year. The best part is the evening before event of washing our cars and talking E9 shop with other owners and passers-by; some beer drinking was involved if I recall. X-Atlas and a few others who have helped me over the years I was looking for but couldn't find.

My car, which doesn't have a name but needed one for the entry form, is called from this point forward, Blue Belle. Luckily I got 5th place in the people's choice award but I'm not sure how many of the 302 cars there were entered.

In total 868 miles driven averaging 21.5 mpg. Before Megasquirt, I was lucky to hit 17 - 19 mpg and with much less horsepower.

Thanks to SF Don for a motor that purrs and roars but doesn't let me down, even on long drives like this one.

Wayne

Just got back home...
The weather was perfect. Actually cooler than usual.
There were 14 coupes and two (Doug Dolan and Wayne Killen) won people's choice awards!
The coupes were: Tundra, Nachtblau, Chamonix (2), Verona, Polaris (4), Fjord (3), & Schwartz
The camaraderie was incredible, the parking lot at The Hawthorne was one big block party! Met a lot of new folks and got to see a lot of folks met in the past.
Notable luminaries... Ben Thonsai, Rob Siegel & Paul Wegweiser.... al they needed was Don Lawrence and they could have build a whole engine in 2 hours! Don, you missed the wine of NC!

I take my hat off to the organizers! They layer out some great driving routes. Talk about driving...Tom & I left The Hawthorn at about 6:30 am and stopping only for food, gas and eh hem "bio breaks" I got home at 10:00 pm. We went 202, to 81 to 84.... very light traffic the whole way 879 miles, one speeding ticket (Virginia), one minor automotive issue.... A good ride!

Stan,

Sounds like a great time was had by all. Talk about Coupe Royalty!! I've seen Don Bower's and Doug Dolan's cars at last years Vintage and Saratoga...and of course your Great White.

Hey Wayne, think I must have missed you and yours but from what I can see it looks amazing. Will want to hear/know more about your megaSquirt upgrade from SFDon...

Frankly, there is no better looking CS than the one I happen to be looking at!! It's a great time to be an e9 owner...

Hope you guys had a chance to have pics of all the Coupes together like this from last year:

>>>Just saw more of the pics my phone did not reveal. Wow...the Hawthorne was packed!! Love the e9 caravan shot. Andrew even had a black bear gawking at his e9!!

Best,

Chuck

Had a great time. It was good to see E9 and '02 friends. As usual the Hawthorne Inn was an almost around the clock party.

We had some adventures, drove down Skyline Drive in Shenedoah Nat'l Park. Saw 3 bear, one as we just drove into the park. Stayed at Big Meadows Lodge at mile 51. Great road, one of our favorite drives.

Our starter began to be unreliable on the way down, so we stopped at Motorsport Connections in W-S, NC. They got it all fixed. While there, Bo Gray's E9 engine, blew a rod through the block while he was on the highway.

Unfortunately we missed the tour Friday. Though had several offers to borrow a car, drive and or navigate. Picked Athena up instead.

Brad Day took a picture of the coupes arriving in Old W-S. Show was excellent with perfect weather, 304 cars total.

We did the tour Sunday to Chateau Marietta Winery, then drove the Blue Ridge Parkway for a few hours.

Split the drive into 2 days from W-S, NC to Brunswick, ME, 950 miles arrived home Monday at 6:30.
