Thinking about it....

Andrew, would you do the drive in one day?

We usually do a 2 day trip. Highways to Hagerstown, MD Wednesday. Then some highways & back roads to Winston-Salem Thursday. With dinner at Señor Bravo next door to the Hawthorne Inn.

Rob Siegel usually does the drive in one day arriving Thursday.

Last year I did the drive home in one day, left W-S at 5:15 am and arrived home at 9:45 pm, all highways.

Tod,
Many often do it in one day. Some of my '02 and e30 mates left Poughkeepsie
very early and arrived at midday. It was about a 10 hour drive.

I took the Agave e9 last year, and opted to stop in Richmond. It was about
2 hours from there.

+1 flexible and would prefer scenic roads to hi way.
Can we avoid Tappan Zee?

Stan, Tappan Zee...or George Washington Bridge. Pick your poison. I've recently traveled both in the Coupe. Given the construction and drug dealers on the GW, I'd pick the TZ. We could go down the Henry Hudson, and out the Lincoln Tunnel, and humm the theme to Soprano's....Given the right time of day, either should be fine.

Hoping for lots of shake down drives prior to the trek.

i know its longer, but wouldn't it be a lot smarter to drive a little further and skip the traffic + headaches around NYC and Philly? ... like 84 to scranton then down 81 + 83 to baltimore? haven't done those drives in a while ... but they just seem like they gotta be better than going thru 2 giant cities in a row - both known for horrible traffic.

Hotel

Is anyone thinking of hotel accommodations?
I see two listed where a suite is a possibility.

Also a Hampton Inn and a Hilton Garden Inn close by at about $100 per night.

I'll be taking whatever route Rob Siegel takes, so I'll be close to fix-it advice. And to Tod B's radar detector. Stan's Coupe will make mine look like hell.

Stan: re Hotel....I thought you were camping? :-P

Rporsche, you're right, that is a good alternate route. Almost no matter how you plan it, other than Saturday or Sunday, one will get snagged in rush hour traffic Hartford/Danbury, NYC, Philly...DC, maybe more than one city. I'll defer to those that have done the trip in prior years.
