We can now recommission old tags, which is super cool for 1974, because they're unicorns with a great story. In 1974 most burned up in a prison riot. No 74 tags were issued, except a few gov't and vanity tags and they're usually Senate or House tags (shocking). State just added a unique 1974 sticker onto the 1973 tags. But an unissued survivor pops up now & again. I found a pristine personalized 74 "RACHEL" tag at a neighbor's estate sale for $5. I'm contorting my brain for a reason to name my car Rachel... But I'm a good neighbor and told the guy he was selling a $100-$200 tag for $5. He started thanking me profusely and nearly broke down, which was odd because the money wouldn't be a big deal for him. Turns out it was his deceased wife's old personalized tag that wasn't supposed to be sold. He hadn't been there most of the time, and the others wouldn't have known. Made my day.
