I've seen a Polaris 2002 Turbo for sale in the Netherlands that i'm interested in buying. Can anyone impart any knowledge and give me any buying tips that might help ?

You are probably best off looking here:

http://www.bmw2002faq.com/forum/1-forums/

You'll find all of the info you need and more.

The 2002 is a fantastic little car (was the car my family owned when i was born and the one that planted the seed for the illness that drives me today :-) ). Unfortunately, it suffers from a lot of the rust issues that the e9 does - shock towers, frame rails, doors, rockers... . The good thing though is that parts are bit more available than for the e9. More common car, more owners - greater parts availability.

Great DD, collector or track car... and its a legend in its own right.

Great little bomb, a nice car to drive and good investment too.
Engine must be checked carefully.
Who is the seller in Netherlands, Laurens?
I attach a couple of pics of mine used for an article in an italian magazine

I've had15 2002s including two tii's. Somewhat regret selling the last one but it got good money despite being pretty dirty. Would happily risk the wrath of my wife if/when the next one comes, but they are rarely in decent condition any more. If it's modern level performance you're looking for, other than a turbo may have you wanting more ( maybe much more) under the hood. The turbo is a real collector car IMHO and it might be risky as a DD unless your insurance is quite robust.

Just be aware that there are no RHD turbos for those of you from the British Commonwealth. The KKK turbocharger is located where the steering shaft would otherwise go on a RHD car. Hope this does not rain on your parade.

THanks for the info chaps. That's a fine car you have there Lorenzo

I'm in touch with Laurens who has several cars for sale. This is the particular car that i'm interested in from another Dutch dealer

I'm told it's rust free, hopefully it's had the sills redone at some time. Waiting to hear the specifics from the history file.

They certainly seem to be increasing in value quite rapidly, so i guess it's better to get it there whilst they are still fairly affordable. LHD is fine - it will make it even more fun taking it around the corners !

Couple of small details from the photos.

1. That is not an original turbo steering wheel.

2. The trunk panels in my turbo (#4291240) and many others I have seen were painted plywood, and were not covered in "elephant hide" vinyl as shown in those pics. Again I would question the originality here.

Small details, surely. But better to know what you are, or are not getting.

Best of luck...

Hello Christopher,

seems to me that this Turbo has many non original/correct interior parts:
door panels, front seats, rear seat upholstery and the steering wheel, as already Larry said.
And the rear spolier has something strange, but maybe it's just the photo.
The rest of the car seems very nice to me, but for that money I'd like a perfect interior.
