This plastic piece was rolling around in my oil filter…

I was changing my oil the other day, and there was this loose plastic part inside of the oil filter element. I think it pushes against the spring loaded valve in the filter bracket. Does the fat end the plastic piece go into the hole first? Thanks.

I always put the fat end in first...

I looked for pictures and all I found was a cut-away drawing which doesn’t show the plastic part.
