I just tried a CEC EF33RL electronic relay.
It is pretty much insensitive to variable resistance between the relay and the ground points for the lights. My stock relay and a "normal" CEC electronic relay were both intermittent on left signal. I cleaned all the grounds and contacts, and all exterior lights flashed fine, and the speed of the blink with stock and electronic relay was as it should be. However, I still had intermittent no-flash of the turn signal indicator. The EF33RL solved the problem. I used a 4-5 prong relay socket with pigtail as an adapter. You'll use 3 of the pig tail leads for "C", "49" and "49a". The 4th connector on the car plug is for ground, which is a separate wire on the EF33RL flasher (comes off the top of the plastic can). The ground on the EF33RL is an open ring connector, so you need to cut it off and replace with a normal/closed spade.
$12 and 15 minutes seems like a waste of time and money just to get a consistent dash flasher indicator, but its these stupid little things that I get most frustrated about. Things like cracking my CSL spoiler isn't nearly as annoying because it was my own fault.
So, if you are going to try an electronic relay, make sure it's got a very wide range of operation (current draw).
