Tips on carpet removal

I have a '71 coupe where I would like some tips for removing the forward most piece of carpet that is tucked under the console. This is the piece directly next to the accelerator pedal. I will eventually place it back, so I dont want to damage it if possible . It is the original carpeting. Thanks

just grab a edge and pull, it is contact glued to floor (well mine was anyway), maybe cut behind with a knife as you go

You will probably need to remove center consol first
