16x205/55 is roughly the same outside diameter as 16x225/50. A lotta folks with staggered wheels (8" rear, ~7" front) elect to put 225s out back and the 205s up front. Having been there and done that, it just results in additional understeer (bad in a car with a that proclivity already), so 4 tires at the same size provides better balance. Of, course you could counter that with a bigger rear anti-sway bar, but you're just robbing Peter to pay Paul.
You can use either size on 7" wide wheels, but steering effort and reduced feedback (feel) will be the tradeoff for additional grip. Unless you have over 250 hp at the rear wheels, the 205s are the best route IMHO. The 205s will maintain a more lively feel.
Also, 225s on 7" wheels look kinda baloonish, if that matters.
I put 225 front and 245 rear on my CSl. Rolled front lip. Easy fit in back. that was pushing it for a 7 inch rim. 225/50/16 ? and 245/45/16? Michelin Pilot Sport Cups tires
