I need some new tires and want something well suited to the E9. I am most likely going to be buying summer tires in a 205-55-16 front and 225-50-16 rear. How aggressive a tire compliments the E9 suspension and steering? The car is riding on Bilsteins with Progressive springs. I have some experience with tire choice on E36 M3's. Michelins ride better and steer more communicatively than some of the stickier more aggressive tires. Not sure how this translates on an E9.

I am Considering the Michelin Pilot Exalto PE2, and the Continental Extreme Contact DW. I also liked BFG G Force Sport on a VW Corrado a few years ago, but maybe not a valid example for E9 use.

Perhaps I should also consider a Performance All Season.
Opinions appreciated.

Highly recommend the Continental Extreme Contact DW tires. I have them on my 88 M6. Ultra performance tires at very reasonable cost. Especially like the attractive asymmetric tread design, definitely not as "busy" as most modern rubbers.

Congratulations on your coupe purchase, looks like a fantastic car. I've always loved triple sidedrafts equipped coupes and the Alpina setup in particular.

Bob,

a word of caution is to look at tirerack for comments on noise as the tire ages. for instance the yokohama es100 ... got initial good press, but they became extremely noisy on the e30 m3. i switched to hankook ventus r-s2 (might be wrong on the model) - they were great in the dry, but average in the wet ... and were relatively noisy. i used bridgestone RE-760 on my audi - very good, but agressive tread design - very good overall. i have bridgestone re-050 on my porsche - they have worn well and i am extremely happy with them. i have 15k on them, and they still have good tread ... but they are expensive.

Chris has championed the conti extreme contact DW, tirerack has also been complimentary ... and is probably the tire i'm going to choose. because they are also priced well.

I bought Firestone Indy 500 Oval UHP tires for my 16" Alpinas based on reviews on TireRack and price. So far I am very pleased. These tires are quiet which was my main concern having driven Yokahamas and Bridgestones before that were grippy but LOUD. They look good and they perform well too.

Bridgestone Potenza RE-11's look and work great for me. I've been pushing hard, but haven't exceeded their limits yet.

Yep, the Conti DW is a great tire, and one of the most affordable too, great reviews from Tirerack and several other coupe owners too. A buddy also loves them on his e60.

I think that is what I will order. Having Conti on the sidewall feels period correct too.

DO you mean Star Specs? If yes, I have them on my Miata and they have amazing grip. Really feel like a racing tire.
