Toolkit restoration - rivets

I'm looking to restore my toolkit and would like to replace the rusty rivets.



Can anyone impart some knowledge of where to source replacements and how to do this without potential damage to the surrounding plastic ?

Rusty rivets--don't replace--instead---

Carefully clean them with fine bronze or steel wool and then coat with a clear coat for a future rust barrier.

I have not had to do this in our much drier climate--but should be much easier to do than drilling out and replacing steel rivets in brittle plastic..
