Hi guys,

Would appreciate your help. A few days ago I noticed the 3 out of the 4 top cap window seals (rubbers) on my cars were missing.

Looking in the W&L catalogue I saw they were still available and ordered them.

Part numbers

51326754265 and 51326754266

http://www.wallothnesch.com/karosserieanbauteile/bmw-2-5-cs-3-0-csl-e9/katalogbild-51-21.html

Is there a trick to get these in to position with the window guiding cloth still in position or can they only be installed before the cloth window guide is in place?

Many thanks in advance for any advice.

New ones are not the best

They are very hard, whereas the original ones, in yellowish-brownish, or silver, are much softer. This allows them to sit much more snug with a bit of glue behind. Beware of left and right side.

Hi Guys,

I remember again why I decided to go for restored cars.:-(

Absolutely impossible to get these in position.

Just to be sure is the bellow picture correct left and right. Looking at the remaining rubber in the Csi's right window the thicker part is on the outside .

Can someone show a picture of these installed on the car?

I can't for the life of me, find these anywhere on my car. I wonder if I'm missing them.

Thanks.

Here is a picture with the W&L replacement in position. I really wouldn't advise to spend any money on these.

Hi Chris,

Thanks for the picture. Seems I put it in vertical instead of horizontal. Looks more like yours when pushed in horizontal but the rubber sticks out over the window chrome. Is that also what you see on your window?

Once the battery of my camera is loaded I'll post some more pictures of how it looks now.

I also don't understand why they produce them in this ugly grey in stead of black. Black would have been perfectly in harmony with the window channel felt.

Hi Chris,

As promised some pics of how it looks now.

Apart from looking ugly it also prevents the window from closing. The gap is just not big enough to accommodate the chrome strip on top of the window. I wonder now if it is supposed to accommodate the Chrome or only the window glass itself?

Philippe,

My seal piece is long gone, but I do have a noticeable gap between the
window frame and end of the chrome strip. Could it be you need to
move the chrome strip back just a bit more?

Hi Pete,

Thanks for the picture.

To be honest I was thinking exactly the same. The rubber probably only is intended to accommodate the glass and not the window chrome. Stupid thing is that these window chrome application are glued solid in to position and I most certainly won't try to get them off to install these rubber caps.

I think I'll wrap these caps up and put them in the trunk. if I ever part with the cars I'll leave it up to their new owners to decide whether or not to install them.

Hi Chris,

Yep I understand it now. So if I ever change the front windows or renew the chrome trim I'll keep, this in mind. To accomodate the W&L caps you should foresee a gap of 3,4 mm.

Big thanks for all the help and up to the next upgrade.

To add one more consideration: When I replaced mine recently, the new caps prevented the glass from rising as high as it had before I replaced them. I needed to trim a very small section out of the top of the cap to permit full up on the window.
