He told me it's an "Alpina slide throttle M90". Admittedly, I had to google some to realize the value. Regardless, it's beautiful and it's also going in a Taiga Series 2 racer and being sold immediately

Well, that's somewhat accurate. (It's mine, sitting on my driveway where I unloaded it yesterday afternoon!) It's an M52, a period Alpina group 2 motor I found in Italy. It's going in a period CSL group 2 car which will be restored by Ron Perry and Art Simonds. First the motor will be going to Terry Tinney though and I will post pictures as Terry goes through it. And BTW the car is not Taiga… that's a different car and a story for another day! Here's the scene in the driveway before I opened the crates. Bonus points to anyone who can identify the wrapped up body pieces on the side (not BMW…).

looks like the front end of a 935?

great looking motor, i really hope you post a video of it running so we can hear it sing!

Correct, it's 935 bodywork! Come to Rennsport and I'll buy you a beer. The bodywork was at one time on this other toy that came in the container with the Alpina motor:

Was that car for sale at the Nurburgring Old Timers GP Auction this year? If it was then I was lucky enough to see it in the flesh. Fabulous piece of history. Congratulations.

That's quite the toy box you got there!

I've always wanted to get to Rennsport. After 15 years I'm slowly making my way back towards the WestCoast - by Thanksgiving I should be about 2,000 miles closer (in Denver) - so my chances of making the trip will have greatly increased.

btw, very cool that you have Art Simonds (and RonP) working on the coupe!

The 934 is not the one auctioned recently. It's one I bought from a friend in Italy. It's raced at Le Mans, Nurburgring, Sebring, Daytona, and most every other place you can think of! It's a very cool old beast. Yes, I am lucky to have some great toys (and have met some great people along the way).

And made some nice friends! Enjoy the new toy. Are you planning on reverting to the 934 front end?

No, that 935 bodywork (have the rear as well) was on the car by the end of its career, along with a 962 motor! I feel an obligation to keep the old bodywork as part of its history- I think I will hang it in the garage.

Back to the Alpina motor: it is now at Terry Tinney's. The other CSL race parts are now at Ron Perry's. Eventually everything will be reunited in a car and we'll show it at Monterey. (Monterey of which year, is the question!) I will try to provide photos of the restoration as it progresses.
