Looking to Trade my 73 3.0CS Malaga Euro Coupe for Alfa GTV 2000.. E9'rs out there any Alfas in your stable. Here is some background on my Malaga Euro 73 3.0CS coupe. I have been in the process of refurbishing (not totally restoring) my coupe since I bought it about 3 years ago making it a strong dependable driving car that I can enjoy on nice days. My coupe originated in Italy and then spent most all of it's life in So. Cal as authenticated by the BMW registry. It states:This BMW 3.0 CS US VIN 2240935 was manufactured on July 11th, 1973 and delivered on July 31st, 1973 to Italy. The original colour was Malaga, paint code 021. It is originally a Italian coupe later imported to California, thus it could have scarcely had a better climate history. As you know corrosion is the worst part about these special cars and on mine little to none exists. This is a very, very, low corrosion coupe. The paint is in the original Malaga and it is still in nice shape some wear and minor crazing but certainly presentable. It has the original paint in engine compartment including shock mounts. Has great original chrome and all the belt trim is there. The interior is tan with a unique euro spec basket weave design. With age and California sun there are some cracks in the bottom portion of the front seats, most of the the back seats are perfect with the exception of the top portion of the back seat and one crack that recently appeared in the bottom seat.It has been refurbished with a complete new clutch, New rear brakes new front brake master cylinder and brake pads.Newer Weber carburetors..still have the original Solexes. new Petronix ignition, new cv boots and assembly kit, new front and rear wheel bearings, new center tie rod assembly, new front driveshaft flex disc, new trans mount, shifter plate bushings and new shift rod bushings, new windshield and gasket, new chrome tailpipe, replaced or repaired exhaust system parts. Updates have been Alpina wood steering wheel and matching shift knob, JVC blue tooth stereo, all new tires for the original 14”wheels, chrome hubcaps. Almost everything works except the clock, the windows all roll down no issues, turn signal works and it more than runs and drives. Depending on what you’re wanting to do with this coupe drive it or make it a show queen,it could use the following, replacement or refurbishing of the wood mainly on the dash some of the laminate is peeling or missing, also has some cracks on the vinyl dash that will need attention to be perfect and as mentioned before the front seats need repair due to the before mentioned splits and if you wanted to a new paint job, it would could be a show stopper. I have receipts for all work accomplished since I have owned the car. I keep the car in warm garage all the time and have never washed or cleaned it with any thing other than a spray cleaner like Griots Speed shine. This is a special coupe, as each coupe seems to have its own personalty this one has never let me down
and is a blast to drive.

Thanks
D smith

Just curious , for those who have owned or driven both. Which do you find more fun to drive, the Alfa or the coupe ?

question was made about driving fun, but...

anyway how can you do this ? :

I took my toys for street racing last week and I was surprised to see my 74 GTV (stock with Euro Cams) passing over my 74 CS (stock with 2 Weber carbs & 5 Speed)! Starting from stoplight, first & second gear was very close but once I pulled to 3rd gear the GTV start to pull about one car distance ahead and the CS had no chance to catch-up! We continued the race to the near by freeway and again my GTV performance just amazed me both in power and handling.

you can not compare, twocars + twodrivers, i have the feeling that a car performs as the driver that drives it

another point: 2 weber carbs + 5 speed ? that is not a very stock CS
but i wonder, is it more powerful tan stock ? or the contrary ?

I had Zeinths on my first coupe before doing what a lot of people did in the 80's and put Weber 32/36's on, my friend has them currently on his coupe, I am convinced they restrain the engine compared to proper stock Zeniths.

Bmw alfa

I do have a 72 CSI and a 73 CS with webers, as well as 73 2002tii, and two 74 GTVs, one with webers and the other one with original SPICA fuel injection. CS or CSI is much heavier vehicle, has less road noise & less engine noise, and it's very comfortable to drive (much like a sedan). GTV is more comparable with 2002tii, however it has slightly more HP and higher torque that makes it fun to drive, likewise the engine likes higher rev rpm and to my opinion it handles better and more maneuverable than 2002 or CS. I do admit that I have a blast driving my GTV with webers; the two webers noise feels & sounds like driving a mini-Ferrari.

thank you steve for this comment, i can not compare by myself as i only know what zeniths can produce and i have never seen a weber setup with bare eyes

when we talk about fun, or driving like a blast i still feel that the driver makes the difference, that it is a pretty subjective thing, i know people that would tell you that they drive like a blast their crappy E30s just because the poor thing smells and makes noise as hell, or they tell you that they can make top speeds of 200 km/h in a straight highway,...is that fun ?

putting that aside i believe that the alfa might be much more nervous/happy car than the CS, as the latter is larger, heavier and to speak true i guess it was never conceived as a pure sports car,...IMHO

Only one winner?!

I have owned a transaxle gtv w/spica injection, a 2002 w/weber carb, and currently a CSi....

While I do not have a definitive opinion, or suggestion, this topic has me thinking...maybe I'll scan through memories and offer new insight....

One thing is certain, your Malaga coupe is very nice, and you can't go wrong with an Alfa, particularly if it's personality you are seeking.

Good luck with the transition, the right Alfa will feel like an extension of your soul.

Yes, Weber side drafts are a whole different experience than downdrafts. I have triples on mine and the intake noise is great.

I would love to have a GTV with side drafts, moreso than SPICA for this reason.

When I was looking for my Coupe, a nice GTV or GT Junior was on the wish list as well. I'm a sucker for the looks, the driving experience and the quirks.
