Popped the mirror off to replace a failed gasket and discovered this cardboard and silicon “spring” inside! Note the careful folds. Assuming this isn’t to spec, does anyone know where I can find a replacement spring or workaround? Included a photo of the conical spring. I've scoured the web for more hours than I care to admit, so any leads are much appreciated.

whats wrong with the exiting spring
also looks like a door handle /door panel spring
that pushes out the door panel to door handle trim

use that!

The image of the proper spring is from someone else. i've got cardboard. Not the ideal material for less than dry climate of Seattle. :) i'll check out the door panel spring but the one from the mirror is conical/tapered.

IIRC, and it was a loooonnnnng time ago, when I got into a flag style mirror in my 2002 days, there is no spring in there. The mirror is a snap fit in a plastic surround. Leaving now to go check realoem.com...

Annnnndddd ... I have a pair of fair condition flag style mirrors recently salvaged from a '73 3.0CS. See thread "Another one bites the dust". If anyone is interested contact me via my email [email protected] (preferred), PM okay.
