Back in the day the trapezoidal mirror on my 2002 was a complete joke. Too small and limited visibility the trick move was to swap into a 320i mirror which was much larger.

Period correct is cool....but seriously being blind
ain't smart.

What side view mirrors are you using?

I also agree that the Trapezoid mirrors are too small to be 'safe',
but ......... they look much better matched to our cars.
have you guys noted that the 'trapezoid' shape kind of matches the front and back slope of our cars.. or I mean the slant in the shark nose and in the back of the e9....... am I making sense??

Yes, I had flag mirrors but thought the elegant design of the trapezoids was more fitting to our cars.

Yep, picture tells the story. Trapezoids are the right answer. Somehow on the 2002 it didn't seem as obvious...maybe just because at that time it was simply a killer sedan and not a "classic"!

Currentlly I just have a trapezoid the drivers side only. Will need to pick up a mirror for the passenger side. Is the mounting point identical, but opposite hand to the driver's side?

Thanks

IMO with the traps the left side has to be as far forward as possible so the back of vent frame doesn’t partially block it, the right side (passenger) has to be back about an inch from the driver’s side or the front of the vent frame will block it. So we are talking just slightly asymmetrical mounting if you can live with that. I mounted my passenger side so it matched the driver’s side late at night without a helper, as soon as I got in the car I knew I screwed up :x :oops:. I suggest you sit comfortably in the car and have a helper move the mirrors forward & aft and see if you don’t agree with me. They are a pretty small mirror so having them where they aren’t partially blocked is key IMO. ~ John Buchtenkirch
