Has brought people together sharing our common interest in the COUPE--I'm sure a number of good friendships have emerged from this venue--the friendly dialogue between Malc and Dax again reminded me of that fact.

I know that I have enjoyed several from around and outside of the colonies. Lets hear from others as to their experiences.

I notice many participants have never indicated where they are located--is there concern for privacy?

Hi all, I'm possably the most remote member (New Zealand)
I'm the owner of a white 1973 RHD 3.0 csa (ex UK)
However the car now has injected motor,5sp cr gearbox, lsd, full uprated suspention (konis, lowered, new swaybars, etc)
The car is presently under going a backend rebuild from the doors back and from halfway up the rear pillers down (rust in gas tank, boot floor, around taillights etc !#&^?/!!) , this is including all brightwork, tail lights rubber seals etc, I'll post pics when I get a minute.
Look forward to talking to you all

Steve

Steve,
I did have Bryce's address, but I have lost it! He has a Golf yellow car so your not going to miss it!!!

No "performance" exhaust manifolds were made for RHD cars, there isn't the room. TBH you have to do a shed load of work on the engine before an exhaust manifold makes a noticable difference.
Cheers
Malc

Bryce here - surfacing from a week of grinding in the engine bay.
Kasbatts Hi. I'm in Papamoa 07 542 5522 if you're down this way.

I've stripped my CSL due to front end box structure rust. Looked good from the outside but got worse and worse once I started uncovered some butchers attempt at discuising the rust issues. So it's undergoing a major rebuild and that's what i'm spending most of the day doing at the moment - fun though. If you want pics I have plenty, and a great car restoration guy who is now very familiar with welding these cars back together! Would be good to compare notes of putting the car back together (I may need a sample to follow!)

Coupes I know of in NZ:
- Hamilton owned by a BMW parts importing guy though I haven't got anything from him. There is supposed to be anther one in Hamilton somewhere in parts (restoration that ran out of cash).
- Auckland (I saw a silver coupe at the airport years ago)
- Wellington Incra CSL
- Wanaka CSA

Guess the one one Wanaka is a candidate for the most southerly Coupe!

Bryce

Hi Bryce, good to see someone else has got the same illness as me here in NZ!!!
Rust, I know all about that at the moment allthough mines a rear end rebuild, It all started at a BMW track day were the car had excessive tyre squeal through corners, on return to Auckland I put it on the wheel alingment mach and this showed up nearly 1 degree of toe out on the right rear!!, so as the rear alingment is not adjustable I decided to slot the rear arm mounts on the subframe and have fitted adjusters from a Toyota Cressida.
But wait theres more, subframe mounts, diff head mount, handbrake cables, rear disks, rear wheel bearings and a rebuild of the rear disk backing plates(rust), Oh and dont forget the rebuild of the rusty fuel tank as well.
The above stuff as it turned out was just the start, it was during the refitting of the subframe that the rust in the rear bodywork was discovered(hidden well) as is allways the way.
A compleat rust removal is now underway which is pretty much the entire rear panel around the tail lights, a small part of the left rear boot floor, and both sills from the rear of the doors back, all being done by a very clever panel guy who does resto work only, all hand made panels and patchs, all butt weld joints etc and while he's doing this work i'm replacing all window rubbers(anyone know were to get the felt strips that are in the lower rubber for the rear windows?) also re anodising all of the trim etc, etc etc
So, what I thought was going to be a $500 rear suspention fix has grown somewhat and will probably end up costing the thick end of $10-12K
BUGGER!!!!!!!(don't tell the wife)
I will post pics of all the above work soon, it sould give you all someone to laugh at Ha Ha

Coupes I know of in NZ

Mine 3.0 cs (white)
LHD 3.0 csi in Riverhead auck
Silver 3.0 csi (guy in BM club here in Auck)
Also I have seen, 1 blue one that was on Trademe late last year
and about 4 or 5 others that I have seen around but dont know were thay are now (one green one I saw about 8 yrs ago sould have just about finished dissolving by now and is probably just 4 tyres now(real, real bad rust,)

Any how thats enough rust talk, I must go and do something productive

Rear window felt

(anyone know were to get the felt strips that are in the lower rubber for the rear windows?)

The metal in my rear side window felts were almost rusted away. So, I bought a 6 foot piece of Mercedes felt trim, cut it to length, snipped the metal so that it would follow the contour of the chrome, drilled small holes and attached it with rivets. I also put in new rubber and used a small amount of urethane sealant before it was riveted in place. It is not quite as tall as the original but it fits perfectly. I bought the felt at an auto upholstery shop, he was going to wrap and glue a similar material over the original felt but my technique works a lot better.

I think its nice that the E9 get the attencion its worth!
Never thought that the E9 were that popular in the USA though! :D
Here in sweden,we got a lot of these beutyful coupe´s,but the owners enjoying them to little at summertime!
In my family, we are three owners of four E9:s together.
My father got a 3.0Cs -75 with a m30B34 -87, and my brother got a -73 3.0cs original and a 2800Cs -69 in parts!
I´ve got a -75 3.0Csi original, the 5th last produced of the E9.
But it will soon be a engineswap in mine, Ill put a M106 from a 745ia -86 in it,and then it will be fully restored. :)

Yeah, I was happily browsing here the other evening when I remembered finding this site 6?7 years back?
And how much fun it's been.
I thought Gertrude and my Friends in South Africa (around 20 E9's left)
were the furthest?
I also thought Mine was the only one in Galway, till I found a nice Polaris 3.0 CSA in a Garage workshop not 5 minutes drive from me.

Sofar that's 2 in Galway, one in Limerick, one being rebuilt in County Tipperary and 2 in Dublin.
Am sure there are more in Ireland.

Additional info concerning interest of coupes in Sweden:

I was a bit curios and mailed a question to Swedish National Car Registry how many coupes still are registered in Sweden.

76 BMW 3,0 CS (no data for 2800)
45 BMW 3,0 CSI

Stefan!
Is that the numbers of a total amount of 3.0Coupes in sweden!?
I dont rely on the swedish register that much!
Last year i asked them of a total of the M635Csi,and they told me, that they just could se mine!!?
I know that there was at least a number of 25 of them last year.
I´ve heard from BMW club sweden, that there is at least a couple of hundreds of the E9 here in sweden. :?:
