Can anyone post a photo of the trunk lid underside leading edge without the trim. I am trying to understand how to mount my CSL spoiler and what under-side screw access there is.

Just need a photo as I don't want to pull my trim off just yet, since it seems to be glued down.

(Looked everywhere on google and no photos show the trailing edge so thought I ask here)

Many thanks

Just got a trunk lid photo sent to me...

As the underside on the original spoilers has these 5 small fixing brackets, I'm guessing they would require super long skinny bolts and drilling through both the lid skin and the frame part and then nuts boiled on from below. Anyone got a photo of how it got secured originally in the old days?

I know there are some more recent alternatives to secure it, but I would prefer to follow the original 1970's approach as BMW factory or dealer installed.

I went with a Zaprace spoiler as I couldn't source an original. We affixed via using the holes for the BMW logo and CSL badge as we didn't want to damage the original fabric of the car. @Honolulu CSL's have alloy boot lids so rust shouldn't be an issue on account of the spoiler, especially if you use some rubber washers :)

Thanks Wes, I will try the BMW badge and 3.0 Csl holes approach.

Although whilst I think this approach would ensure it is well secured on one side and the middle, but I am slightly concerned it might flap around or lift off on the unsecured side. As mine is a fibreglass OEM spoiler it is heavier than the Zaprace. I guess I will need to use some heavy adhesive for that other side.

Anyway I will also see what my body shop guy thinks.

(Agree drilling extra holes into my original alloy lid is something I want to avoid)

These original spoilers are a problem, there are two issues , one , you have a piece of fiberglass that is 50 odd years old ,they deteriorate with age I repaired 30 -40 small cracks in mine , painted it , more cracks , repaired it , painted it , more cracks . I then went to a fiberglass fab guy , we then blasted all paint ,filler off the spoiler , the spoiler was then entirely re-glassed its looking good , now , the mounting process .My spoiler had the original mounts cut off and was held in place by screws, my next step is to make sure that the spoiler is sitting flush on the lid then I will make new mounting brackets similar to the original .

Well, I got my quote today to install the ducktail spoiler. I am using one of Sydney's most highly recommended workshops (they do a lot of classic Porsches and everyone in Sydney raves about them).

Anyway the owner of the workshop assured me that glueing will be very secure as today's auto glues are super strong (same stuff used for glueing in modern windscreens apparently). He was against drilling holes in my aluminium boot lid as it would be extremely expensive to ever weld them over if I needed to, as aluminium welding is specialised and difficult.

Anyway fingers crossed for an excellent installation and perfect colour matching (am repainting both the boot and the spoiler). I hope it looks as perfect as the job done on the Polaris below (another down under CSL)

Now I just need to locate a 3.0 CSL decal as Jaymic have no stock atm. Anyone know another supplier for the black decal?
