Trunk material

you can buy it here from BMW as well. it is slightly different than the original skin. it looks close, but it is different. it takes about 3 meters to do the rear trunk panel, the 3 floor boards and the panels on the trunk lid. you want it all in 1 piece.

Does anyone know whether W&N's is the same material as what the factory is now selling, and if not, whether W&N's color is a better match to the original color?

not sure about W+N's product ... but i have old and new BMW product. i don't find the color that different ... once you clean the old product. most of the old product is dirty. the one thing that is different is the texture of the product.

Sorry that I cannot remember who gave me the source...but I ordered from:
Albright's Supply Co. Inc.
po box 565
Corinth, MS 38835-0565
USA
Beluga Vinyl Pearl Grey is the name.....Its the first color and texture that I felt was in the 95% range of both for our cars. The grain is little less rangey, quality is outstanding (I think its better than original). There was a free shipping for a certain amount, so I bought enough for the coupe, the 02, and some extra. Cheaper that buying enough for both cars and paying the shipping, if that makes any sense...They offer a free sample. I think I paid $16.75 per yard this summer, 54" goods. Quick shipping, nice customer service, and they are in the US (sorry off-shore folks)...google for their website.

that price beats the hell out of BMW or W+N. i got mine from BMW at a great price (Many thanks to M5BB).
by the way, to do the 3 floor boards and the light panel - you need 3 yards in a continuous piece. not sure if you will have enough to do the fender sides.

Just to inform you that I already asked Wallothnesch if they had the molded wheel wells for the trunk area, and they said no. They only have the "elephant skin" grey color vinyl for the trunk interior sold per meter. There is another place in England that has them, I cant remember their name at the moment, but seemed a bit expensive.

About 3 yards required for the coupe?

And is this for the bottom of trunk/boot lid, floor pieces only? Aren't the sides that cover the rear quarters (not the elephant skins) moulded though?

With 3M (3 yards) you can do the rear panel, the 3 pieces of the floor and the 2 pieces of the trunk lid. you will not be able to replace the piece behind the rear seat or the pieces on the fender sides. here is a simplified drawing of the way i cut my 3m piece.

here's the caution, you want the gas tank + spare tire to come from right next to each other ... and the floor piece should be cut in the same direction. similarly, the trunk rear panel should also be from the same direction. the box drawn is 52" x 120" ... the approx. size of a 3m piece of BMW vinyl. 3 yards is 108" ... which is 4 inches short of what is drawn (112").
