hi, good news from essen trade show:

...in the BMW stand it was a particular object that attracts the attention of "coupe connoisseurs" more than cars or girls (I wonder If there were girls), a nice well proportioned object dressed in light grey, a very much desired piece for the beautiful "she" that waits in every "forum-er" garage,...the trunk tool box !

this is a prototype of the soon to come reproduction series that BMW will set available on May 2012

fresh up-to-date plastics and same retro finish including chromed handle

<<hush-hush talk saying that the price is believed to be between 250 and 280 eur>>

isn´t it a beauty ?

The one in the picture looks just like Coupeking rebuild.

Is that 200 Euros with the tools or they will charge 50 Euros a tool?

Can't wait to get one. If the pricing is indeed between 250-300 Euros, then it will be great bargain as rebuilt units cost roughly $500-$600 US dollars. And how long will the "rebuilt" boxes last before cracking and breaking again?

As far as the new plastic is concerned, no need for BMW to hunt down an esoteric material, just use the exact plastic as used on the later "half shell" boxes as fitted on the late E3, E9, E12, E24, and E28 cars. The softer material on these units is much more flexible, durable, and tougher than the brittle, hard plastic used on the original E9 boxes. These tool boxes are nearly indestructible, the one on my M6 will probably outlive the car and then for another 50 years or so. :D Have never seen or heard of one of these boxes breaking, hence they are worth about $25 in nice condition and not really sought after much.

I wish they would come out with new lower seat cushions for the front seats. Rubberized horse hair or even foam ones would be great if they were more comfortable. I love the look of the original seats but I’m at the point of changing them out for something more comfortable. I don’t remember my Bavaria seats being so uncomfortable but I was probably like 30 years younger and almost that many pounds lighter  when I had that car. ~ John Buchtenkirch

This is great.
By the way, did Manfred share how BMW decides/prioritizes which E9 part they re-start production for? I assume that they probably get feedback from their distributors. I think that it would make sense for them to consult with our group as well. Maybe we should start a wish list based on our needs and share it with them.. Thoughts anyone?

you are absolutely right, this forum can be the best way to know which parts are of the maximum interest to e9-ers

unfortunately i can not communicate with manfred in an extended way, it would be nice a german speaking intermediate to share all these ideas with them
