TTAC published my article!

Well written! I am sitting outside in NH with a cigar and a glass of scotch thinking about how another summer is gone. Not enough time to fully enjoy my coupe. I am one of the few E9 guys who does not turn a wrench. My dad was a Buick man who bought a new car every two years. He never bought a tire much less restored a car. No role model there! I routinely changed the oil in my '77 320i but my coupe is entrusted to Mario at VSR. As much as I would like to, my travel, other interests, and lack of skills keep me behind the wheel rather than under the hood. I only wish there were more good days to drive the coupe which is vastly more enjoyable than the current day cars I have driven.
But I digress. Probably the scotch...

Excellet article about a dying hobby. I am in New Orleans, drinking rum, waiting for fall to get here so I can drive my coupe at times other than evening/night! I spent most of the day working on it, replacing power steering filter and fluid, and fine tuning the carbs (still not satisfied so this will spill over to tomorrow). Does my wife's Toyota Highlander beat it to 60mph? Yes, but when I drive that do I get thumbs up from other drivers, motorcyclists tooting their horns, people asking me what year it is or rolling down their window to say "beautiful car" on every drive? No way! The lack of self maintenance for later model used cars is why they are priced artificially low - a 4k Range Rover will be 8k after it's first visit to the shop for a/c and brakes because it needs a computer and you can't do it yourself. So for me it's my coupe for tinkering/weekend cruising and my SUV with warranty for daily driving. Shop/dealership fees are out of control on anything else.
