I have a couple of questions. I have a 1972 LH drive 3.0cs, the combination turn signal/wiper switch is on the right side of the steering column. You push the end of the stalk to turn the wipers on and off. The wiper switch on the end of the stalk appears to be stuck and will not move in and out, has anyone experienced this issue? Can you take the plastic tip off of the stalk, if so how?

The turn signal, wiper, dip switches changed in 1974 was the turn signal switch moved to the left side of the steering column at that point?

Thanks, Doug

Hi Doug -- I believe the plastic tip was manufactured is such a way as to preclude removal. Why would you want to try to remove it?

The end should move in and out to activate the wipers, it appears to be stuck. I’ve tried spraying WD40 but still no movement, suggestions?

I haven't looked closely at this particular switch, but having repaired a couple of other electric switches on our cars, my guess is that there is a spring or a plastic part in the base of the switch that is not functioning properly. Unfortunately, you have to risk damaging the housing of the switch to get it open.

Don't do this without verifying, but I think it just pulls off if I recall correctly...
Do you mean the cap on the end of the stalk pulls off? I can see a seam but I’m afraid to try removing the cap, I don’ t know how it attached.

The end - it is the cap, you can remove it like any other cap (need to pry it). Under cap there is no spring, only not complicated mechanism that remind something like "teeter".
Maybe it just stucked, because someone poured out cola on it or something else.

I did get mine working but it was a 74 so the stalks and switches are different. I PM'd Doug and let him know it's kind of hit-or-miss once you get in there....

I was able to use a box knife and run it around the seam and the cap came off. It looks pretty nasty in there, there is a rocker that's really gummed up, I've dosed it with penetrating oil, now we wait. Thanks for all of your input I'll post the result.
