I think I accidentally posted this as a PM to SFDon--getting used to the new format.
Anyway, I had some work done to my '71 E9 which required removal and replacement of the splash shield under the front. I think it looks different now and was wondering if it's supposed to be outside the metal lip under the front or inside. It's inside now.

Second question: Can anyone please tell me the brand and color (code or number) to use on the metal cover over the air cleaner? I need to do some touch up work.

Undertray is in the correct position. IIRC there are a couple of locating tabs which are on the bottom (outside) of the metal scuttle.
 
Looks like it may have been previously incorrectly mounted.

There are a number of threads on air cleaner color depending if you have the green or grey color.
 
As far as I remember, there is clear photo of the correct positionning in the blue binders .

In the Autumn/Winter 2000 issue of CS Registry, page 6, is an article by a body shop in Ohio, that has mixed that color to the exact match of the original (what they say). The formula is to mix one liter of Sikkens Autocryl single stage paint. It can be scaled up or down. They also say that this color is also used on the trunk caddy:
