I need to buy a new set of tyres for my 1974 CSa. The choice seems to be between Vredestein Sprint Classic, Pirelli Chrono 2 or the Michelin Energy Saver+. Has anyone had experience of these tyres and would you make any recommendations?

What do you want to do with it?

I feel that the type and size of tyre is more important, ie aspects ratio.
Is it fitted with standard size 175 / 70. R 14. Is this the size you currently have?
It is possible on standard rims to to up a width and down to a 65 aspect ratio instead of 70, this gives the same rolling radius. This type of tyre should give a more modern, but perhaps harsher ride.
Other key factors are speed and weight rating.
Lastly, what do you want to do with the car? If it is drive it fast around corners then go modern, if you want to show it then go classical eg vredstein.
This is just my view, see what the others say. I have standard size Bridgestone on mine.

Michelin XWX is the correct and ultimate answer ,IMO. They have come down in price and are closer to the Vredesteins. It is unlikely any of us will need to replace before timing out on age.

10 year investment? (OK may have a different metric) long term best and coolest solution.

how many threads on tyres?

A bit of use of the search function wont Hurt you, ;-) there is lot of knowledge previously written

I have been using vredesteins 195/70 r14, full satisfaction, for years, just put a new set recently

xwx look awesome, but too pricey even for a ten year investment ;-)

Size 195/70 on R 14 is fine, 200 will look a bit balloonish, more than that in R14 is ridiculous

Oldies but goodies

If you have 7x14 CSL type wheels, then 225/60 14 works well. My coupe is still sporting Yokohama A509's in 225/60 14 on 7x14 wheels. That tells you how old my tires are. Try finding a 225/60-14 tire these days, esspecially something from Yokohama... Ain't going to happen

Are you going original or "gangsta" big style rims?
For correct look I would say Michelin XWX as first option and then Vredestein when going for period correct rubber.
Big size rims, it does not matter at all :-)

Chaps, thanks for all the ideas and suggestions - I think I'm going to go for the Vredestein Sprint Classics and hopefully keep a more period look.
