I got sent a picture of a Bat in the UK taken in the late 70's with the registration BMW 80.

Anyone have any record of it?

Thanks,

Rohan

UK Bat

Should be a Polaris CSL with 3003 ccm engine. First registered in August 1973 (UK).

Cheers

UK Bat

Hi Rohan!

If I remember correctly, five Bat cars were supposed (known) to be sold new in UK (pls correct me if I'm wrong):

WGO 375R (1/1/74) Polaris (got this reg plate in 1977)
VMD 880M (1/1/74) Chamonix (got this reg plate in Feb 1974)
UPL 87M (1/1/74) Chamonix (got this reg plate in Feb 1974)
777 DSM (19/11/75) color unknown
LHP 111P (21/11/75) Polaris (got this reg plate in Nov 1975)

As you can see, only the last one has (still?) the original reg plate. Therefore, I would guess that the pictures from the Polaris Bat (BMW 80) might show the earlier reg plates for the WGO 375R car. The alternative would be the 777 DSM car.

In addition and besides yours (imported from France), there is another Polaris Bat in UK (imported from Germany). Namely RYJ 38M/YTA 163L.

So all in all, there are some candidates.

Cheers

I think YTA went to the US after Munich Legends sold it?

There is also another ex French bat in the UK owend by Richard Baxter who is on here. Its number starts with KFH i think.

LFH111P went to Japan i understand, as did one of the white bats.

I also viewed one here that was owned by Jamiroquai, it was polaris. The reg started with PKH i think.

WGO 375R is now owned by BMW GB and until recently at least was still wearing that reg no.

UK Bat

Actually there were six Bats, from the 2275- VIN range, sold new in the UK. I'm not sure which the sixth one was. I think Jay Kay's Polaris bat is still in the UK. Maybe that car is the sixth Bat (sold new in the UK). Also a candidate, which might had the mysterious "BMW 80" reg plates in it's early days.

Yes, the Chamonix Bat (UPL) was exported to Japan. From the 4355- VIN range, there are some Bats that came in the other direction (imported to the UK).

Cheers

Henric,

great info - many thanks.

I wonder who bought the bat in japan?

I saw the Jay Kay bat a few years ago and it was in need of a restoration but did drive ok.

Hi know this is a REALLY old thread, but just to document all.

VMD 880M was in the UK owned by my father, Charles Richardson until 2012. It is now in the USA with me!

It is in great condition and running and driving very well...
