Hi does anyone know about a UK owners club? I have not been able to find any on the net.

There is the BMWCC (GB)
I was a member for about 5 years but gave up because it was too expensive for what you got.
Mainly focused on new BMW models. tended to be a "mouthpiece" for BMW UK. Magazine was glossy but lots of adverts, very little "useful" stuff
Just my opinion

Any insider info on how to get my paws on an e9 in the UK? I have been looking for a while now and it seems they come up rarely. Do you know of any specialist garages that do them up and sell them on? Getting desperate!

Most of the "fly by night" restoration companies from the 1980's and early 90's have long gone, thank goodness. Too much bad work, filler, dodgy MOT's, and over inflated prices

Try talking to the following to get some pointers:
Jaymic in Cromer Norfolk
and
Munich Legends, they are in the "home" counties somewhere

Don't get so desperate that you buy a load of trouble. Unless your either prepared to do a lot of work yourself (me) or you have a bottomless wallet (not me)

Looking for a nice E-9

As Malc suggests--try setting aside your "immediate gratification" need as it has led to a number of disappointed "newbies" who can't resist the lure of a "cheap" CS--good ones are neither cheap nor often available.

The "cheap" ones will almost always hold the certain promise of costly specialized metal work to repair and/or replace expensive sections of these beauties--alway necessary to heal the effects of corrosion and rust that is so prevalent in your wet climate conditions.

LISTEN WELL TO MALCS WORDS ON THIS ISSUE AS HE IS VERY FAMILIAR WITH DEEP METAL REPAIR--and it can't be fudged in these cars.

Take your time and listen to the suggestions of experienced owners and take the time to go over the history of others on this site and be deliberate in tour descision---after considerable research. You will be well served by so doing!!

I speak from 36 years of Coupe ownership in the South-West Coastal "Colonies" where our climate is much less damaging to our lovely Coupes bodies.

To my mind the E9 is one of the prettiest cars ever made but ownership of one is not to be taken on lightly unless (as Malc said) you are able to do the work yourself or you are quite wealthy. I'm not deliberately trying to put you off from buying one, rather just trying to be realistic. I completed the restoration of my car earlier this year, I can weld, paint and am handy with the spanners but it still took me almost 2000 hours (would have been less but I got side tracked with a few modifications) and arround £4000.00 not including the cost of the car.
They truley are a fabulous car to own, by all means get one but spend a lot on a car that has been recently restored and get it cavity wax injected. Other wise be prepared to spend more getting one restored if you're paying instead of doing.

Cramsden, if you don't mind a LHD, there is a good supply of Coupes in Germany, and you get the added bonus of finding all the gremlins during your drive home! I drive a LHD here in London and have no problem except at parking lots. There are some benefits to the LHD cars as well, such as a more reliable braking system with only one servo. Here are the two German car sites:
