Anybody had a problem with the foam rubber insulation under the bonnet (hood) deteriorating and starting t break up and turn to powder? All I am left with is a very nasty sticky area that is proving very difficult to clean off the remains of the adhesive.

3M citrus adhesive remover. Worked great and no paint issues. Plastic putty knife.

Just regurgitating an old post re under bonnet insulation subject.

Wondering if the grey/black foam type insulation is really necessary? Mine does not have any insulation (my bonnet is aluminium). So should I be worried that my bonnet will be heat compromised without insulation? / Will the bonnet paint become too hot and deteriorate?

I would prefer not to put under bonnet insulation on as it looks much neater and cleaner without it. But what is the consensus on it's functionality benefit?

(PS Actually I notice my engine never gets really hot anyway)

mine deteriorated and made quite the mess while decomposing. As Stevehose has mentioned, plastic putty knife is gentle, and I used engine degreaser as a solvent. Went at it in stages. Paint was saved. Looks clean and shiny and I haven't replaced foam. Not sure I will.
