I've noted that there are at least 3 different surface styles on those sound deadeners (honeycomb, smooth etc.).
Did they vary with production year or what's the reason for it?

I still have an original in its packet, the surface is different from those on offer today!

The original pads were all six sided hexagons. As coupes were repainted the lines get filled and and are hard to see if at all.
