I am doing a bit of a research project and am trying to determine when the paint stickers changed from Italics to Block letters. The only ones available today are Block letters whether you go to Carl, Peter, Jaymic, W&N, etc.

My 69 2002 and NK sedans both have Italic lettering, I have a photo of a 71 1600 also with Italics. Both 2002 and e9 by 1973 have Block letters, I just don't know when the change was made. I am hoping that a few owners here who know without question that they have original paint stickers can chime in. I am thinking that the 70 2800CS and perhaps 71 has the Italics but perhaps all coupes got Block letters. Here is a photo of the original Italic sticker with the crème colored letters and border. Notice how the border is much thicker than what is now available. Thanks.

Regarding the paint sticker it was italic at least in august 73, just before the official "facelift" in September.
Problems with an August manufactured car are that some facelifts were already started to be mounted. So I guess that I have some kind of Frankensteiner.....

Thanks Stefan. My May 1973 was bold, not Italics and I have a photo of a 73 Tii in bold as well, that is why I think it changed somewhere in between 71-73.

Not.
I took the opportunity to purchase a set of stickers from W&N together with ordering some other more necessary parts.
The stickers I got were of the wrong size/font. So I'll keep my dried original stickers on my car and instead learned me to love them :-)

Top to bottom:

-What you get when you order from BMW in USA

-a decal from a seller in Germany that looked promising but is wrong size (how do you get all the other details correct except that???)

-original decal from June 1972

If the price is right I can get other colors made as well in the Italic style. Once the font is duplicated it should be easy to change the color name.
