Hi, is someone able to help ID this module in the engine bay. I can't trace the wires much (or identify in wiring diagram). It has a separate harness running to relays near battery, then joins into main harness from the relay base? Not sure if it was from my e3 when I added A/C to e9 20 years ago.
Engine is currently out and much wiring disconnected so I can't trace by elimination.

Operates your auxiliary fan when Engine gets too hot.

Thanks sfdon, that is interesting as there is also a seperate harness that connects to auxiliary fan with a relay and temp sender from the radiator, but the plug for wire on one side (power) of the temp sender was not connected to power.
Is it possible that the module replaces the radiator temp sender for turning on the Aux fan ?

It shares the water temp sender with a twinned brown/white wire.
Switching on at 105 C and off at 100 C
It turns on your auxiliary fan relay
I prefer the later method
81 C temp switch at bottom of radiator.

I’m heading back over for work in a few months?
Where are you in Australia?

great info, I have one of those control units in my engine bay also. I asked a long term previous owner who confirmed with his friend/ mechanic that it was fitted to control the electric rad fan in the early 80s. I understand the part was taken from a 3.0Si, so it looks to be a BMW part, even if not an E9 part. My car has no A/C.

At the same time my car lost it's coolant pump rad fan, leaving only the electric fan to do the cooling. I've had no issues with this set-up yet, but early days

Thanks Drew, yes I now believe it probably came from my 3.osi (I took, injection, M/T and A/C from it after it was written off!).
I think I will take it off and get the radiator temp switch to control the aux fan.
