Upgrading to twin Webers

i am sorry to say this is downgrading to webers

+1 on stevehose

rebuild the zeniths by yourself, it is fun and you will end up with a fantastic performance

i offer you my help and previous posts with details of "how to..."

regards

I have the JAM kit on my CS. The supplied Weber carbs have mechanical secondary throttles. The pedal pressure is OK until about 65 MPH, at that point you really have to push hard on the pedal to get the secondary throttles open. The progression is no where near as smooth as with the Zenith carbs. You also need to be very careful when adjusting the throttle linkage. It is very easy to adjust it so it will go over center at full throttle and lock wide open. That gets pretty exciting.

Yep, happened to me once on the interstate, scared the bejesus out of me.

I had the JAM kit installed on my Coupe around 1985. I like them very much and have no desire to go back to the Zeniths. Although, I do still have the original Zeniths in case I ever decide to go back to stock.

The cam-over situation with the linkage is just a matter of adjusting them correctly. I have never been able to tell when the secondaries kick in from the pressure on the pedal. The pedal pressure feels very linear to me and similar pressure compared to stock. I did have to learn not to floor the pedal at low rpm since it will tend to bog if I do. That is too much carb at low rpm. That did not take long to learn and it just comes naturally to me now.

I have not found the air cleaner sits much higher but it does sit a little further to the rear. This makes one of the rear catches of the filter cover a little tricky when latching and unlatching. There is also a little misalignment with the valve cover vent hose but not enough to be a problem. After 27 years of use, they could probably use a rebuild. They still run great but the chokes have gotten a little sticky.

2ndaries

My Z's were just bad to the bone and after a few readjusts and cleanings, I had Harold in Mountain View (sorry European guys!) replace them with Webbers - and he happens to have worked for them in a past life. The set up is pretty amazing. Love the feel of the pedal when I punch it and the 2ndaries kick in. Definitely not linear. However - definitely be careful with the linkage. Initial run after install and the linkage got stuck wide open. Last week the gas pedal stuck a little, inspected the linkage and one of the cotter pins came off, hence one of the secondary links popped off and caused the rest of the linkage to jam.
