What is or is there a trick to putting in a new upper door seal ?

Looks like one needs to insert the small flat part under
the molding and then press the other side into the slot ?

Any easy way of doing this?

Thanks,

It requires concentration and effort, but the seal can be worked in by hand. Feed in the opposite edge of the seal into the groove first and then work in the near edge in with your thumbs. You can see and feel when the seal pops into place. Work the entire length this way. Proper technique, and carpal tunnel, will follow naturally.

I have done 2 driver´s door seals. I began at the top of the vertical section of the A-post, where I applied some contact glue to secure the flat, thicker part against the lower end of the leaning part of the A-post.
Then as just suggested I worked my way up/backwards. The seal then needs to by cut by about 2" as it is too long. Allow for a little shrinking when cutting (which is hard as the base is stiff).

I had a few issues where the hard, plastic base wouldn´t settle properly on the near/outer side. When pressed harder, it deforms slightly making it even more impossible to push in. The soft part covers these spots, and I ended up leaving them, rather than trying to pry them with screwdrivers or whatever. I wasn´t entirely satisfied, but have gotten over it.

The entire lower section is very easy. The s/s instep plates need to come out and also the top of the "B"-post end requires a bit of fine tuning to get right. Altogether the new seals make a great difference, noisewise.
I agree that my thumb got a severe beating.

I will someday do the other sides (and the other cars). I like replacing the vent. widow seals too. And of course the vertical seals on the rear quarter lights.

Seals and Seals-installation help

An aid in fitting the large upper door seal that I have found very helpful are the small hardwood tools used by sculptors in moving their clay--my son is one so was easy to lay hands upon--get two or three as thay are useful tools for a number of Coupe things rather than fingers and metal tools such as screw-drivers.

The vertical seals fitted on the glass at the missing "B" pillar is very easy once you have learned the correct method--please do not use glue as some have done--it is unecessary and can be a pain to remove as I recently discovered with a CS that I was sorting.

How to--position the seal on the glass with point up--as it should appear when correctly installed--carefully position and slide the trim piece over the edge and slowly work the small locking lip into the groove. Apply a tiny amount of silicon on the seal lip with a Q tip--will help it pop in the groove--when satisfied with fitment--trim to size at bottom of seal--about 1" is removed to allow non-interference from door closure. When done this way does not fall off--and NO adhesives.

Peder--when you come to the colonies I'll show you this easy way--it took me many tries to discover.

Thanks Murray,
the vertical seals on the missing "B" post I mastered 2 years ago, thanks to your earlier description. I must have done them on 4-5 cars already.
I will be glad to take a "pottery" lesson from you in December.
