Hi All,

I am in need of an urgent confirmation of an E9 3.0 CSi VIN number. The number is 2262710.

It should be a RHD 1973 CSi (bought in the UK), but when I look at the CS registry that seems to place it as a 1972 LHD CSi. So I am confused as the owner says it is definitely a RHD and definitely never been converted.

Can anyone confirm this for me? I am hoping to buy this car tomorrow (I have a deposit down already) and would love any input that can be offered.

Thanks in advance to all, I'll post pics once it has all gone through all things going well. Happy trails.

Cheers.

If you look at the registry it shows that all road e9 vin number starts with 4, if it was built (very important: built =/= delivered!) after january 1973.

You can try to ask the details of this car from bmw histroric archive.

3.0 CSi 2 260 001 to 2 266 506
production quantity: 6506

The car you are looking at falls in this sequence, production dates from 7/71 to 10/73, which would incorporate right to the beginning of 1974 model production when VIN number switched to a 4 as the beginning digit.

There is no delineation between RHD or LHD in this VIN sequence . .

As example a 1974 2500CS starts with VIN 4305001 . . .yet data shows that the
3.0CSi 4340001 is the first and shows it to be a 1973 model. ?????. . .

I seriously doubt BMW / Karman produced cars out of numerical sequence . . .

I recommend judging the car by the VIN number and what it is . . if the owners registration doesn't harmonize that may have happened because of the date of sale when new.

I bought my coupe from 1st owner in Deutschland #2262759 just built a little after the number you provided and has confirmed data:
Built 29 June 1972 with Delivery to BMW dealer Fuss, in Baden-Baden 3 July 1972. My US entry (US DOT) classified it as a '73, but it is a '72.

Thanks

Hi all,

Thanks for your input, I have it sorted now and I am comfortable that this is a genuine RHD CSi.

Cheers for all your help. Will post pics once I have taken delivery of my new toy.

I would contact BMW archive - [email protected]

The were able to confirm that my car, VIN 2266187, was an RHD CSi manufactured on October 01st, 1973 and delivered on October 17th, 1973 to the importer BMW Concessionaires G.B. Ltd. in London.
