Per the archives, at least one Coupe'r claimed success at installing E24 6 series rear seats in an E9. http://www.e9coupe.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=109 I asked for a few details regarding this install, but there were no replies. The seats do not fit even close to flush without removal of the seatback shell. To accomplish this, I used a grinder with cutoff wheel on one seat and electric metal shears on the other. The former is easier to use but the resulting dust is more daunting. Suggest using a strong vacuum. The seats can be made to fit close to flush to the rear parcel shelf, but much depends upon how much of the rear shell is removed. This was not my car and the owner says he is satisfied, but the fit is not perfect and requires a fair amount of tinkering.
