Guys,
I might need to sell off my E9 parts collection (and maybe the car as well).
I've always said I'll never sell my E9, but recently a vintage race car I thought to be out of reach has popped up for sale and I am seriously thinking of selling all my E9 stuff to fund the purchase.

I'm soliciting opinions on the market value of these parts

(1) a set of 4 mint BBS RS 16" staggered wheels w polished lips (BBS caps)

(2) a set of 4 restored-to-perfection 16” staggered Alpinas. These were restored by Mike Burger as part of his parts cache but then he sold them to me. Never mounted/used. As new.

(3) rebuilt 5spd CR dogleg gearbox and a used 3.07 LSD from an early euro 635CSI

(5) pair of Scheel-Mann 501 seat in excellent condition. One is perforated blue vinyl and one is in the stock blue cord. One need to be recovered to match the other.

(6) NIB ceramic coated Stahl headers from the group buy about 4 years ago.

(7) Real, genuine Alpina triple carb intake system in good to VG condition (does not incl the carbs so you can go 40's or 45's depending on if you have a 3liter or 3.5/3.7liter motor). I also have the air cleaner bracket that is spot welded to the inner fender. Comes with a modified thermostat housing.

(8) 1 complete bumper set in stainless set (front is a repro of a 73 and rear is a repro of a 72). These are on my car and fit fine. It's just weird that you need the plastic end-adapters for the front but the rear mounts directly to the body (no extender brackets). I actually think it's looks pretty good this way. Rub strips included but no rear under-riders and no in-bumper lights. No front brackets (they're stay on the car).

(9) an OEM front/rear bumper set in chrome/steel (VG but not quite up to excellent condition). Includes nice rear under-riders (w/o rubber, just the metal). No rub strips, no mounting brackets.

(10) Rear trim piece between the tail lights, w integrated Euro fog light (this is an anodized aluminum piece).

(11) Alpina B9 motor, completely rebuilt from stem to stern by Mario at VSR1. Zero hours, still in a big plastic bag in my garage. You can get a new set of Spain Weber DCOE 45's for about $1250.

(12) L/R front grills - from a 1974. Average condition (bright work needs sanding and polishing to remove pitting).

(13) pair of old tail lights: good for restoration

(14) E9 - this is a separate discussion

Thanks for any opinions, criticisms, encouragement.

John

The Alpina motor isn’t meant to be a high RPM screamer so the Stahl is the “street” size (1 3/8).

Perfect...

Stolen from our Scott-

“ Stahl made 1.25" / 1.375" / 1.5" for street cars. race headers were 1.625". korman states that stock to moderate builds 3.0 to 3.5L should use 1.375. big cams + 45dcoe side drafts ... should use 1.5”

The rebuilt tranny is worth 2500 wholesale and 3500 retail
The difference? A retail seller guarantees the part AND has a spare unit to back up his guarantee

Tha 3.07 is an odd duck. Useful only for a turbo or a close ratio non over drive tranny.
Used hopefully good is 600.00
Rebuilt guaranteed is 3500

The Stahl header brand new are 1300.00
Add ceramic is 250.00

Burgers Alpina wheels are 3500

Don’t shoot the messenger

(1) a set of 4 mint BBS RS 16" staggered wheels w polished lips (BBS caps)

you need to precise which model/models you have (different models even BMW, different values) & in what condition - in general genuine 5x120, after renovation is 2-2,6k EUR
poor/average condition 1-1,5k EUR

(5) pair of Scheel-Mann 501 seat in excellent condition. One is perforated blue vinyl and one is in the stock blue cord. One need to be recovered to match the other.

ca. 700-800 EUR
these are later model - so not so desirable as Scheel 100, 200, 400

I don't know if it will help you, but couple months ago complete (with control unit etc.) & completely rebuild B7 turbo engine was sold on ebay.de for ca. 6,5k EUR

(12) L/R front grills - from a 1974. Average condition (bright work needs sanding and polishing to remove pitting).

100-150 EUR/set

(13) pair of old tail lights: good for restoration

200-400 EUR depend on lenses condition

Note— this is NOT a FS post. It’s a request for opinions on fair market value. If the parts and car don’t add up to enough $to fund my gap on the next race car then Althea’s parts will go into my E9.

Thanks for all the info so far.

Don,
Thank you for your professional insight.

(1) the diff only makes sense with my CR gearbox (which has a direct 5th gear). Without that gearbox the diff is indeed a solution for a question yet to be asked.

(2) I see your point about having a spare unit as a form of warranty. But I’ve never bought a gearbox from anyone with that level of warranty. Usually a rebuild warranty it covers a rebuild if anything goes wrong in 12mo (racing voids the warranty, of course).

I was hoping the motor was worth more than $6.5k euro. At this rate, these parts aren’t worth enough to get the job done. I’d have to sell the car as well. This is a tough choice!

Ready to pick up at my shop engine no intake no exhaust no injection would be around 10k

Cam
Pistons
Machine shop
Porting
Rings
Bearings
Rockers
Engine Core .... and on and on.

Add fresh harness and motronic for spark is another 2k
Add fuel injection complete with intake etc
And you have a 17k engine

Yes I know these are not desirable as they are early 1980's seats. But they are magnificent in function and I think the style is not bad for an E9, and the quality is far above Recaro.

The value of a Vsr engine is more than double 6.5k sitting on the ground ... especially an alpina engine

I’m not sure I know what a 501 is. I have mid range 400’s. Please post a pic

The Scheel-Mann 501 has a long base cushion, and a high back with aggressive side bolsters. Mine have a mechanical lumbar support adjustment. Here is a poc. Headrest has been tilted way up in the pic.

John,

I have a slightly different take on the 3.07 diff. I have a bored/stroked/injected engine with about 275+ HP and about 35% higher torque than the original 3.0's. It had a 3.64 diff, and this resulted in higher rpms and more engine noise at highway cruising speeds than I wanted. Also, with the 265/6 transmission, the speedometer was ~20% faster than actual speed. I do not want this car for it's acceleration giggles (have the SL55 AMG for those), but for it's fun in our local twisty roads and cruising to meets etc.

I am delighted with the results for that purpose by replacing the 3.64 with the 3.07 I bought from Al Taylor (for $300). Easy first gear starts, plenty of options for the twisties with the 3rd and 4th gears along with the engine's torque, the speedo is now dead accurate, and engine rpm for cruising is 20% lower. I know Don doesn't like the combination, but it really fits my usage for the car perfectly.
