So I had my valve cover off to do a valve adjustment and decided to see if my oil bar with the pinch mod is working. I made a cam chain cover out of moldable plastic and mounted it, the chain throws off tons of oil if not covered, I remember this when I first got my car and it sprayed everything in sight with oil. You can see that the front and rear cam lobes get plenty of oil which is the reason for the mod, so it appears all is ok. This was a cold engine start, 1000 rpm.

Very wonderful mod and video!! M10 and M30 rockers and cams have something to rejoice about today!

Fantastic, lovely video.
Do you fancy doing a before and after video, I would like to see the difference? I appreciate that you would need another oil bar, or another car.
Also, can you detail the oil bar modification please?
Thank you.

Steve, curiosity question. in looking at the towel at the bottom, there is more oil spray on the right side left on the towel. is that probably due to the timing chain ... or is the right side getting more oil? my guess was the chain creating more spray.

I did this mod about 10 years ago and always been curious if it works and I didn’t do something to screw up the lubrication of the valve train. This mod has been around for decades, mostly used in the e28/24/12 m30 crowd.

The theory is the oil bar loses pressure at the ends due to the location of the feeder holes under the banjo bolts. By squeezing the middle in a vise with round sockets on either side to provide the pinch, it theoretically sends more oil to either side. @sfdon and @stphers might be able to add some real world insight if this is necessary or the case.

Someone else would have to do a video with an original bar for comparison.

Not sure, it’s entirely possible that the front gets more but it doesn’t appear to be at the expense of the rear or other valves. More likely is that by the time the camera panned to the front it had already been well doused by the chain.
