I have the infamous gas smell that I tracked down to the disconnected 'blue plastic line' that goes thru the firewall that ultimately connects to the charcoal canister under the battery tray.(Yes I have one... am being PC..)

I have searched and read several posts that hash over and over again vented or non-vented gas caps, venting the line 'out the back' etc... But I have yet to see a post that discusses the issue with those of us that have converted a carb motor to a 3.5 L injected motor. I also have the 'in the tank' fuel pump.

My question (to Don..) is... if one wanted to reconnect the vapor recovery lines to the charcoal canister, where would one attach the vacuum line for source of vacuum from the canister to intake?

Its pretty straightforward on a carb car and is referenced in the blue book... but on an injected motor??? Can one just attach the line to the intake plenum? There is a rubber-capped tube between #1 and #2 intake pipe. Is that a no-no? Chris M suggested this source but others have indicated that THAT source may not be appropriate...

Don't want to mess anything up... just want to 'appropriately' get rid of gas fumes!

Fire away...DCG

Later cars used a temp sensitive vacuum device hooked up to ported throttle body with a check valve.
You cleared out the canister when warmed up only at open throttle.
Most folks kill the canister, kill the gray plastic tank and run the blue plastic tube
direct from nipple at back of fuel inlet hose at tank to a small rubber grommet a foot away
which vents to outside.

PC is good!
Connect your hose from canister to port on throttle body that only shows vacuum when accelerating. One port has vacuum at idle and other has vacuum when giving it gas.

Walter- I'm in So. Carolina. When does it cool off here?????

Don, it depends on how south you are in SC ... and how close to the ocean you are - humidity is a killer. the real answer you are looking for is no time soon - october is when it will start to cool

82 degrees at midnight....
Benji got good news today so all ok.

April/May and October/November are nice in Camp Lejeune, NC (Eastern Carolina). Outside of those months, it is usually too hot and humid or cold and rainy; that's why most Marines want to be stationed at Camp Pendleton.

Don, where are you in S. Carolina?
