The white Varta battery for the coupe is NLA from the dealer, supposedly just in the last few months. I know many prefer the Optima but I wanted to keep the car original in appearance. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

A Bosch battery is a suitable substitute.
Varta batteries are still available and very common in the UK. You may have to widen your search beyond the dealers

I could be wrong, but I don't think Varta was the exclusive battery supplier for E-9s. Nevertheless, Mercedes, Audi and other European marques used the same battery suppliers and I would not be surprised to learn those dealers might have what you are looking for.
While it might not be the same, I Interstate offered a battery with a white case. Or is it the translucent case you are seeking? Consider peeking into a Pep Boys, Kragen, Checkers store. You might find what you are looking for there. I would assume whoever took over Vasek might have a suitable replacement too.
