While waiting for certain parts of my CSI to morph back into 1974 metal, I'm giving thought to the interior trim. The seats were originally a navy blue velour but now need to be totally restored given they look a sort of faded white /purplish colour .

I appreciate that leather/vinyl is a far more serviceable material but just wondering if in the E9 World velour has been "kicked to the kerb"? I expect that my car will be a "Sunday Driver" ( umbrella used in inclement weather) and kept covered during the week to prevent fading of said velour should that option be pursued . Despite my age , I'm not not really an authority on velour and would appreciate feedback on suggested options ( Years ago I had a Peugeot 504 ...can I say that here ? ...had a grey leather trim with navy blue insert which looked great). Colour is Polaris ...the CSI..not the 504!. Suggestions please !

PS "Global Warming "...the E9's friend ? ;)

Cheers, Simon

Velour.

Hi:
I recently had my seats recovered in navy blue velour and IK thing they look great. The side and top trim is in navy vinyl. The material is still available at Maxamillian Imports. I actually cut the pattern out and had the whole body of the seats sewn up and than gave it to an upholstery shop to replace foam and install the covers. If you give me your cell phone number I will send you pictures from my phone. The velour, for whatever reason looks more original tan redoing in leather. Also if you like what you see I can cget the seats made up for around $500 using fabric purchased by you.
Good Luck.

Just had my seats re done in blue velour as well, (still have to put them together) and they look great
I prefer velour rather than leather on old unsupportive seats as it gives more grip, you don't end up sliding of the seat if you dive with a bit of spirt.
And with the bonus of not freezing you arse in winter or frying it in summer!

Blue velour is sexy & also not dead cow skin.

Simon,

I, too, have the blue velour interior. And although I've combed the internet (at least the G-rated sites), I've yet to come up with a velour match for our bitchin' interiors. Erik Sliskovitch (Peter's son) who runs the Coupe King shop along with his dad pointed out that even if by some miracle I do find some NOS velour that matches, "It wears like toilet paper." And the wear & tear is not just on the seat & on the back. The seat belts on the E9 tend to wear down the "shoulders" of the velour seats, too. So I've been paralyzed; I am eager to freshen up my coupe's interior, but not if it means I have to kill a nauga or use leather to do it. On the other hand, spending money on a velour interior refresh only to have it quickly worn-through by the seatbelts is not exactly appealing either.

Keep us in the loop if you come up with a solution.

Have changed my mind about my blue velour interior, it is horrid, seems every single piece of lint, cloth, fluff, hair, crap etc...gets stuck to it - nightmare as always looks filthy..will definitely get rid of them if not put cover over!

A "woman's"perogative

...mmmm...having taken out the tired velour seats and realising that I may be trying to "make a silk purse blah blah " , the female genes kicked in and ... I've changed my mind !! ...have since discovered Jabberjaw and will probably go for something "red" with interior ...but may change mind again depending on phase of the moon ...

The '73 CSi parts car I purchased years back had GREY velour. It was beautiful!! And would have happily installed it in my Polaris Coupe. But the mice got there first. The stench was beyond comprehension. The seats went from car to dumpster after stripping any metal parts.
The parts car came with tan leather front and rear seats in fine shape. They replaced my worn out blue velour. I still mourn the greys.
