Very stiff rubber seal around gas filler

This part, on one of my cars, is so stiff that the lid won´t close properly and stay flush with the body panel.
Familiar to anyone?
Remedy...?

pb blaster softens rubber a bit. but watch out when you soak your gasket in it
it will make it swell up if you leave it too long.
on the other hand, it might be worth to just replace it
