My heart goes out to the core of the Austrian E9-Driven crew in Vienna, Austria. I was fortunate enough to visit Vienna on Business and Andreas (Orangener) was kind enough to gather a crowd of Viennese E9 sympathizers to meet me for diner and lies about about E9 adventures.

The Vienna team has done some remarkable restorations and I must encourage all E9 enthusiast to visit some of Orangeners' posts about restorations. These guys are on top of their game!.

We spent a wonderful evening together conversing about our cars, parts, and the woes of rust. I spoke broken German and they were kind enough not to laugh at me; as usual, their English surpassed my German!. We exchanged a few gifts but I must express extreme gratitude to Gunter and Georg who gave me a magnificent E9 desk placard. It is a completely illuminated (blue light) E9 outline CNC milled into a piece of Plexiglas; I will post a photo when I am back in the US. I am not worthy of this piece of art and I will be eternally grateful. Georg gave up his Sunday morning to meet me at my hotel to present me with this priceless gift. I am without words to describe it.

From left to right: Gunter, Andreas (Orangener), Kirk, John (Me), and Georg.

These guys are a credit to our general cause of E9 restoration and they certainly know what is what. Austrian beer is also beyond reproach!

Coupes & Bier

There is nothing more enjoyable when traveling on business than meeting up with E9 enthusiasts!

Spoken from experience...

Vienna you say?!!

Well then my Coupe has to say hello to its hometown and friends !

My 2800 CS was manufactured on December 30th, 1969 (my little brother's B-day!) and delivered on January 13th, 1970 to the BMW importer Wolfgang Denzel in Vienna as per BMW Mobile Tradition archives.

Any possiblilty Mr. Denzel (or his operation?!) still around?? Love to try to find a pic (or more) of my coupe's original dealership from back in the day...

How neat would that be to find a pic of 'your' coupe sitting in its original dealer's showroom or lot!

(err....would the Coupes have even been on the lot...?! )

Cheers!

Thanks John for your posting full of compliments, that i will immediately return to you.
Yes, we had a very good time, with talks about our coupes, had some fine beer and kept a good table.
And our broken english and your german gave the evening a humoruos taste
We should try it again, when you come back to Vienna some time, your allways welcome.

@ shanon : The Denzel Company is still in Vienna WWW.DENZEL.AT , i have an old rear pane from an E3 with the historic Denzel-Logo, i will try to post a pic asap.

As Orangener says, Denzel is around. I am currently renting a Mercedes from Denzel rentals and driving around Austria and Germany for business. I'll bet you could find a window sticker from Denzel BMW today.

On a perhaps more interesting note, my first car, an E3 (US spec Bavaria) was also delivered to Denzel (Vienna) in 1972; my father drove it in Vienna and then we shipped it back to the US on the QEII (which is used to cross the Altantic ourselves) I was only 12 years old when this car was delivered but when I reached driving age my father turned over the keys to me. I drove it over 280,000 miles and rebuilt the engine 3 times and the transmission once. I don't think there was a bolt or screw on that car that I hadn't removed and put back; most things I could even do blind folded. It was a very sad day for me when I sold it.

friends abroad

Good new friends, good beer, good food, and smoking in the no smoking section. Life is good. It is a lovely country with great people. Have a safe trip. Dave V. in NC
