US delivery coupes came with vins (1) stamped into the metal tag riveted to the right side inner front fender (2) stamped into the upper firewall bodywork, (3) on the metal tag riveted to the steering column cover, and (4) stamped into the upper rear of the engine block. The numbers all matched on delivery.
The most significant of these is probably the one on the firewall, since it has to be cut out if someone plays games with wrecks. The tag on the fender is sometimes screwed back in place after a (not too savvy) paint job or restoration. The tag was riveted on top of the sound/vibration damping insulation, so if the insulation was removed or replaced, the tag might have been replaced with screws. If screws freak you out, a trip to Sears for a rivet gun is in order. FWIW, it's not a big deal if your block vin doesn't match.
