Anyone thinking of goimg to this event at the end of May? Its a beautiful time of year in a nice part of the country. Its either the 25th or 26th, whichever is Saturday.

Vintage in the Vineyards

This is a great event! Low key get together focused on old BMWs. While there are a lot of really nice cars, Every one is welcome. Site is a winery west of Winston Salem, NC.

Last year there were about 8 E9s. I'm trying hard to get mine together to take this year.

Lots of pictures here:

I was there with my 635:

What I don't understand is that given that this event is so close to VIR why don't they have it there or at least have a drive in conjunction with the show? I'm certainly not critizing having an event at a nice venue like a family run vineyard but to lose an opportunity to take their car on one of America's premiere road courses seems to be a waste.

You're right. We are 1 hour from VIR. It could be a great add on. I don't know the organizers, but it definitely bears mentioning.-Paul

This is a great event and it grows each year. There are some great driving roads and the location is beautiful.

Track rental costs big $$$$$$($10k to $17k per day) and then you have to get insurance, even more $$$$. The track schedule is usually packed at the best times of the year so you end up stuck with a winter event or in the dead heat of the summer.

I have tried to incorporate Sharkfest into a driving school or Club Race but they have no interest in sharing the track time. The best most organizers are able to do is to get low speed parade laps during lunch at a club race. Fun, but not worth the time.

Scott Surdy, the event organizer, work really hard to keep this event free to the participants. Free. I don't know how he does that these days.

Vintage at the Vinyards in May

Had a great time last two years. Very low key and casual, but some very nice cars, and lots of nice people. Word on the 2002faq is that attendance is going WAY up this time, and I hear thru the grapevine (sorry) that Scott Sturdy and org are expanding the show area this time. I hope to have the coupe at least road-worthy, and maybe even an 02. I look forward to seeing everyone that can make it. Dave V. in western NC

My wife and I are going; we've been for the past 2 years. I have a 1973 3.0CS and my wife has a 1974 2002tii. It's a wonderful setting with lots of really nice old BMW's. And speaking of nice settings and nice BMW's is anyone making the Sharkfest in Asheville, NC. It's a 6 series event but E9's are invited too as they should be.

See you there, Doug
