Hello,

I am having a problem with my idling after starting, idles high when starting which it should, but does not come back down.
I was told by my local mechanic that it is due to the "Idle Air Valve". The only place I was only able to find one is on Ebay VERY EXPENSIVE... or can it be rebuilt, what are my options?

Thanks,
Michael

That part is the manifold pressure sensor @Fritzie

@ocra67 is looking for an AAV - additional air slide valve for cold idle enhancement.

A member of the german forum offers the overhaul of the ZLS (ZusatzLuftschieber) with new expansion elements:
Last price was about 320 Euro if you bring in your ZLS.

Furthermore he offers new filter housings and new specially made filter elements for the original housing.
Last price was about 150 Euro

I see Bosch nowadays remakes them instead of repair.

Check the numbers by yourself please.
Hi Ftritzie,
I just got an answer from Bosch: they don't do those repairs no more...
" Unfortunately we do not offer repair / testing / replacement / new part of this product.
Reasons for this can be no spare parts and equipment available, obsolete technology or no availability of test technology."

Hi Tom,
So, whenever you have time, would you kindly let me know Mr Ebner contact information? Thank you.

In the meantime I have my D-jetronic parts overhauled by this company in Germany.

Hi Fritzie,
it would be good for others to know what had been overhauled and how much it cost.

Hello Tom,
The overhaul of my manifold air pressure sensor (Druckfühler) D-jetronic costed €640,= including VAT and transport.

(If you drive a new BMW it’s peanuts )

...if you have nothing you should be happy to obtain it, even you wouldn't be sure it's still intact after all these NOS years.
Otherwise, get your part overhauled, also not cheap! Before, test it as described above, maybe it's still doing it's job well.
Don't forget the air filter! Sure it's doing it's job after 50 years? How to test? Cannot!
Let me know if you need assistance!

Hi Fritzie,
I got a positive answer from Carservice Kueppers. So this weekend I will dismount my AAV, and first try to clean it up, depending on how it looks. And if I don't successfully get it to work properly, I will send it to that company.
In the meantime, thank you again for that contact information.

As far as I have read, refurbishing these valves is not easy, and specific material is required. But refurbishing prices are going up to 500 plus EUR/Dollars... So there may be demand depending on your price. Good luck.

Hi guys,
Just wanted to share my experience last weekend. It may be useful to some facing the same issue, and probably save time and money:
I was thinking to remove my AAV, send it up to the repair shop we talked about in this thread, because the car had a terrible idle, would stall, and do the "sawing" (reving up and down)... and so on, until car would be "warm enough".
In the meantime, I had ordered from Pertronix the Ignitor II and the corresponding Flame Thrower II coil, which I had received a few weeks earlier.
Last weekend, I thought: I will start with the Ignitor, and if I have time, dismount the AAV, and send it for overhaul.
To my big big surprise, when I successfully finished the Ignitor + Coil mounting, I started up the car, just to m

to make sure (sorry...) the engine would start normally, well it ran perfectly. So I waited a few minutes to eventually get to the sawing.... And it never happened!!! The idle went down to where it is supposed to be, ran smoothly, and even the engine noise, even the fumes smokes were different. No more sawing. I drove it something like half an our, getting it to the "fatal read light"... It was "healed".
Well... all this to tell everyone who is planning to dismount the AAV: have you, if not installed an electronic ignitor, checked and tuned up your pin point ignitor ???
Happy ending for me...

It’s an easy test- large pliers on hose when cold when warmed up.

You will know if it’s working.

Does anybody know a shop in the US repairing a manifold air pressure sensor?
For DJet, but not E9.

Ahh, the MAP sensor. Fuel Injection Corp, Tracy, CA did mine a couple of years ago. Very reasonable price, but they had trouble getting the settings right (very complicated) so I had to buy a multimeter that measures mH (millihenries) and did the adjustments myself after I measured the settings in other E9 CSIs.
Two things: 1) get to know SFDon: he is an invaluable D-jet resource; 2) A MAP from an early 70s D-jet Volvo works well enough while you’re getting yours rebuilt.
Good luck!
