Lets just say the 728i was the exception to this crowd in Bellevue this morning. LOL
95% of the cars were modern very high dollar Aston Martin, Ferrari, Lamborghini and such. There was an old Acura NSX and a bunch of Porsche GT-somethings as well. There was one other BMW (parked next to me - a M3 I think). Was a fun gathering sponsored by a stereo store I have spent way too much $$ at along with the local Avants group as well (I think Avants is what brought in most of these cars as best I can say).
The cars went up the hill to the left of the picture - but nothing I thought was noteworthy. I had fun taking this pic showing the dichotomy of what was there.
If it were not rainy - I would have taken the E9, but... alas... not today.
There were a couple of guys there honed in on the car right when I parked - They knew what it was and we had a very nice discussion.
A good day....

Most did not realize they were in good company. Didn't have a clue.
That gathering reminds me of how much 'young money' is in the area. Most of the drivers there were under mid 30's - I think.

It also reminds me of as story I heard some time ago where a friend of mine had a brother who worked at a Porsche dealership down in the SF Bay Area - this in the mid 1980's.
Most of the salesman there were not giving the time of day to this kid who kept looking at the 911's. This young fella wanted to take one out for a test drive and such.
He had on jeans and t-shirt and... and looked 'normal' (normal anyway for a young 20-something young fella). Didn't appear to be the kind that has the $$ for one of these cars.
Most salesman didn't give him the time of day. But the new sales guy (the brother of my friend) would talk to anyone who came in and....

The 'kid' ended up buying two cars - a 911 for his father and a 944 (or 924 - I forget) for himself.
Turns out the 'kid' was one of the early employees of one of the early tech companies in Silicon Valley and... even though he lived at home (and all that that entails) - he had the means to pay cash for these cars - and seriously so.

Every time I go to one of these car shows and see who is driving the new/expensive/flashy cars - I chuckle every time I see a guy (or gal) who looks to have just graduated from high school and.... think of this story.
You never know. While some of these cars are owned by kids of wealthy parents, a decent number of young drivers are able to get into these cars on their own (at least in the Bay Area and Seattle markets that I am experienced with).

I have to say - even if I could afford one of these, I would not get one. I don't see the point..... But would be fun to be in the position to have a choice. LOL

Ah, this was something I had heard about from some friends in the Avants group. Just down the street from me in Kirkland. I would have tagged along and may have run into you as I'd probably have been looking at the E23! Alas, I was in Chelan for the weekend pulling the Zeniths on my E9 and assisting in a 6.0 Powerstroke Injector swap. I'm sure we'll cross paths sometime!

Looks like a Cars and Coffee crowd. I don't even know what the new exotics are, and don't care. I end up talking with the air cold VW guys instead. They need a "work on your own car" section.

Looking forward for that... I am north of the Tulalip Mall (out near Kayak Point).

And yes Dan - It was a C&C gathering. The main reason I went was the stereo store I go to was a co-sponsor. I had not visited with them for a while, so... was good to do so.
