Washer Wiring -- Path to Ground at Stalk?

In preparation for the drive to V@V, I'm getting my windshield washer to work for the first time in 25 years. I have a new pump. As per a prior post, I'm getting 12v at both of the wires at the pump when they're connected, and 12v at one of them (green and black) when they're disconnected. If I touch the negative side of the pump to ground, it turns.

I have the Prospero wiring diagram, but reading these things has never been my strong suit. Plus, my car has the integrated wiper/washer/directional stalk, which does not seem to be represented in the diagram.

Nonetheless... I traced the black and brown wire to the control relay. If I touch that terminal to ground, the pump fires up. No problem there.

Then I pulled off the stalk so I can access the soldered-on wires at the back. There's a black and brown wire on the back. If I touch it to ground, again, the pump fires up.

So it appears to be the switch on the stalk.

My question is: on the switch, which one is the wire that is supposed to go to ground? That is, when I pull the stalk in to fire up the washer, this is supposed to connect the black/brown wire and WHICH other wire?

Thanks.

Nevermind to both washer-related posts

Nevermind to both of these washer-related posts. I figured it out. Pulling the stalk in connects the black-and-brown wire to... ground! Duh. I said reading wiring diagrams wasn't my strong suit.

Very carefully took the switch apart (nothing like 37 year old plastic and potted metal). There's a tiny tiny plastic dowel that's supposed to be in a hole at the base of the stalk. It had popped out but was miraculously inside the switch. Put it back together and it still didn't work. Cleaned the electrical contacts and bent them up slightly, and voila.
