Wax vs. Polish

Stupid question, and haven't seen posted before. Do you have a preference? My paint is not original about a year old.

Wax (brand?) or Polish (brand?) or both... neither?

I've been using Zaino for six years now and the results are pretty amazing. Their detailing spray is all I use to dry wash my coupe. Their new Z-CS clear seal spray is unbelievable. Just sray on, rub in, and let dry. Lasts for 9 months and gives an incredible depth, clarity, and gloss.
 
I like Meguiars' products. I find their NXT line works very well. The wax is easy to put on and lasts a long time, i.e. several months, even on cars that are outside all the time. Very shiny too. I get a lot of compliments. Meguiars has a wide variety of products including a number of polishes and glazes. The number 7 glaze works very well, especially on less than great paint jobs.
 
Zaino. End of analysis. Their polishes and other products (not really waxes) outlast and outshine everything else I've tried- and I've tried many.

Do not use cheap microfiber towels though. Check out waynestowels.com. No affiliation, etc, just happy with the results.

There's a detailing forum on Roadfly.com that is pretty good for car care issues.
 
Polishing and waxing are not the same

I use the Glosshaus system for polishing, and a good wax for waxing.

Waxing is done every 10 washes or so; Polishing is only done now and then...as in every few years, or when the gloss fades quickly after a waxing.

Rec'd Zaino products Friday.
Used fine rubbing compound due to age of paint job, 17 years. By hand, was a bit of work but looked much better.
I then applied Zaino AIO (all in one) as per instructions, 20 minutes. It is a cleaner and sealer.
Then applied clear sealer, wipe and let dry. Car was magnificent.
Then applied Z8, a gloss spray seal. Spray move about until dry, 10 minutes total.
Only AIO needed rub out.
Has repaired dull old paint to outrageous results.
I tried this product due to our group reviews. I haven't used anything easier, ever. Total work time less than an hour, but done over night for cure time. Not necessary for such a long time, just my schedule.
It was so easy I will put it on my work/service vehicle.

This stuff is great!

More praise for Zaino...

I used the AIO by itself on my E28 5 series. I had not detailed it since last Fall. Applied with a buffer and was done in 45 minutes, Looks awesome. My 5er is white and there is no more acid rain on the surface.

On the Coupe, I started with the AIO and then 2 coats of Z5. The shine is phenomenal. I can only imagine what their other products and glosses would do.

for daily drivers, AIO is probably all you need. If you are on the car show scene, you'll want to scope the Zaino site and choose the method that most meets your needs.

Regardless, I am now a convert!
 
Zaino, never heard of it, I wonder if it's available on this side of the big ditch?
Is it ok on all paint finishes, eg cellulose? I live by the sea and the atmosphere rips polish off faster than you can say "rusting E9" :o
Is it available from "good" US automotive stores or is it mail order only, just in case I am in the US for work related reasons..... :wink:

Thanks for chiming in everybody. You guys convinced me to go with Zaino (LenS should get a discount for all the business he's sending their way!) I ordered a clay bar, the all in one, Z5, CS, and Z6! So I think I'm good to go! Gonna get it done this week, can't wait to see the results!

It def. isn't a wax or polish, you have to use both.

1. Wash
2. Polish
3. Wax
4. Clearcoat wax (optional)

Polish removes all the old wax and built-up dirt. If you just polish, it is like de-greasing a sword; if you leave it like that, damage will ensue. The wax is there to protect the paint.

I've been doing this process on my 540 for nearly 10 years, and the paint is still perfect. (aside from some road rash, but hey, it should have some with 150k on the clock) After I wax it, I can put the bottle of wax on the trunk and it will slide off, ditto for the roof. It takes a good 8 hours, even with buffers.

I have heard many good things about Zaino, but I have been using Meguiars for years with excellent results.
