I've been having an issue restarting. Cold start is fine but warm starting after a grocery trip even leaving for an hour results in a tough time starting. I have nearly open the throttle to restart. It seems to be a relatively common issue so my question is whether this is worth chasing down with a mechanic or is this nature of the beast. I hate re-starting the car like that.

Normal warm-hot restart is done with the throttle open a bit (20% ish). And for me it takes 3-ish seconds of cranking. For comparison, my SU equipped xk120 starts up hot with just a momentary flick of the key (zero throttle). I think it’s partly due to the mechanical fuel pump, and maybe because the Weber integrated float bowl gets pretty hot compared to other designs (ex SU). My SU equipped xk120, when hot, starts right up with just a quick tap of the starter button. (zero throttle).

Try adjusting your starting procedure with a partly opened throttle. If that doesn’t help, then look at tune-up work

And your XK has an auxiliary starting device! Pretty clever.

This helps y’all. The last owner thought it might be because of ethanol gas. I’ve yet to find any ethanol free in the area so I might need to travel a bit.
