Weber linkage problem

I installed a set of used weber 32/36 carbs this weekend and I'm having trouble with the linkage. Currently, the linkage is pressed against the bottom of the fuel pump which can be seen in the pic below. This does not seem correct. I was going to try and machine down the thick linkage bolt plates about 1/4" or so to get a bit more clearance. Has anyone had this problem with a weber conversion? Any advice or tips?

the block(s) so the nut's under the spherical joint ... providing there's clearance.

Grind a bit of the steel nut.

New pump.

Thanks 61Porsche...That steel nut does look thick. I'll try removing it.
