How old were you when you first bought your CS? I am 29 and have been in love ever since the age of 19.

I was 25, and it was 17 years ago. Daughter was just born. Still have both with me. Struggle to tell which one now causes the most worry, or costs the most!

Know which won I will get rid of first tho!

I bought my coupe from the original owner!

I was 29 when I bought my coupe 6 years ago. I feel in love with the coupe when I was 8 years old, attending a classic car auction with my Dad in Australia.

If you are interested I wrote an article on my hunt for the coupe, starting from 8 years old....

I fell in love with the coupe at Ralph Schomp's Arapahoe Motors when I first saw one in 1969 but could only afford a 2002. So after three of them, a bunch of Saabs through the '70's, numerous forgettable minivans and suvs while raising a family, then getting sidetracked by Lotus cars (had 10, now down to 7) I finally got my 2800 cs at the ripe old age of 64. It was worth the wait.

I love this car and have driven it almost 4,000 miles since I picked it up from Murray last April. And Schomp's daughter Lisa is still a BMW dealer in Littleton today with a brand new multi million dollar dealership.

I purchased my 2800cs in Lakewood Colo. at the ripe old age of 33. That was in 1983. I had never seen a cs prior to purchase but fell in love at first sight.
Floor pans were already rusted through.
I drove it in the snow and rain and didn't worry about it. Was much more reliable than my VW bus, and faster also.
Put it in garage storage while sending my wife through college and nursing school as money was very tight. But selling it was not an option.
It is now 98% finished the way I want it, and still love to drive it.
It is now a family heirloom and will be passed down to my son, who is going to law school at SMU in Dallas. I have owned the BMW longer than my son has been alive.
I have antique plates on it which limit the amount of miles I can legally put on it, but have done some good long trips in the last 3 years.
This forum and the old road kill forum have been my inspiration to complete the rebuild of the the cs. Lots of help and comraderie to be had with people I have only occasionally met.

Similar to some, my first car was a 69 2002 back in high school, 1973. My heroes came from the black and white photos in Road&Track and Sports Car Graphic...What was England like? How did you pronounce Weber, Ecurie Ecosse, and whatever happened to the drawings that I sent to Enzo Ferrari? I never imagined that I could ever afford a Ferrari 330GTC, but maybe one day, a BMW with the same rear end (arguably two of the finest tail-ends on four wheels..) Almost bought a Polaris one about twenty years ago, and took a trip to NJ in a blizzard to look at Chamonix beauty five years later...but reality pills took their toll. Then came ebay. More fun, sort of, than Hemmings in the water closet. So finally about four years ago, I took the plunge. Age: 49. A Polaris 74...couple of weeks later, a Chamonix 72 (RIP), who selflessly gave up parts until her net worth approached Wachovia stock...a year later another Chamonix 72 with a Ferrically-challenged body showed up to warm the bench "just in case". She's still waiting for the decision to part out, or go home with Malc's American counterpart...And now a 72 Baikal shows up this fall from TX at the back door with that sad "spare change, mister?" look in her headlights...What could I say? I told my wife that at least I wont need a tetanus booster for this one....Not exactly a liquid asset, however...Hope to be road worthy before the economy returns...Sorry, enough babble for now. And as Steve said, thanks to all here for their help and encouragement; those that I know, and those that I haven't yet met.

Hmmmm..might be time to thin the herd...

Age Old Question

I wanted one since I first started noticing them occasionally when I lived in Newport Beach California in the 80's. I wanted one even more when one of my neighbors had one when I lived in Mukilteo Washington in the early 90's. Finally, after I moved back to the east coast (and years later) I bought one at age 40, six years ago.

I just purchased my dream car about 6 month ago and lost my favorite one a week ago(73tii).My wife said it is was OK to make the swap but I had to sell the tii after 16 years but at age 50 I have ONE! A 74CSA with 133k, very little rust and everything pretty much in great condition! Including the original window sticker from Luguna Beach BMW.I will post photos after detailing over the winter.

first coupè 7 years ago ........30 years old...... at that time, I was without experience and my mechanic convince me to sell because a lot of works to do?!?!? was one of the latest 100 car produced with original plate

Bought my first Coupe #2270016 in 1972 at 43 and later named him BLUMAX. A few years later had filled the garage with three of them. Here it is 37 years later and my first one is still with me--the BLUMAX. One Coupe left with a former--she too was an admirer. Have recovered from the loss of partner--but haven't gotten over the love affair for the fine Laddie (BLUMAX is masculine) and doubt that I will ever--he is a keeper!! Oh yes, the other one I sold to a guy from Fort Bragg in Northern CA and never heard of it since.

I would take the BLUMAX out for a little run today--except it's raining and most of you "seasoned" members of the board know my views on Coupes in the rain!! Although it is messy I may go out to the garage and "shine him up" for our next Cars 'n Coffee on Saturday.

Murray, I might join you if it isn't raining.

I was 33 when I purchased my Coupe, which was last September!
