What color should the 3 strut top acorn nuts be?

Not that it is correct, but RealOEM shows an 8mm zinc hex nut and a wave washer.'

That's what was on my Bav when I removed the spacers. After cutting the studs off, I was not happy how they looked with the hex nuts and I replaced them with acorn nuts. Maybe everyone did?

Strange, in the E9 Realoem it lists it as a cap nut part numbers 07119924417 and 61332306787

I bought 48 of them today
They are Chrome.
Same as valve cover nuts.
We carry 1/8 and 1/4 spacers to fit.

Confounded me for a long time- I have collected a bunch of the original ones.
Post a pic later today. Realistically, originals are likely not chrome. But the Zinc ones go to hell so quickly that I opted for chrome and bought the ones from Walloth. And they match the valve cover nuts and go well with the aluminum spacers I use.
No easy answers!

When I searched other sources, it always came back to chrome…

Valve cover dome/cap nuts weren't chrome either. Here is our 01/70 2800 as found with 51K original miles with standard m8 nuts as Dick has shown.

FWIW, got chrome acorns and washers from Don a while back (thanks again!), love the look, especially if you has a strut bar.

I have three pics of Euro coupes, CS, CSi and early CSL, all have dome nuts and thick washer. All pics of US coupes I have use the dome nut and a thin washer. For MY 74 BMW switched to a standard M8 nut and thin washer. Last pic is my 73, same as the Malaga 73. I now think that euro coupes had the large spacer as they did not get the large spacer under the fender to raise bumper/headlight height for the US.

Yep- I took pics of the Euro cars in Bad Herrenalb. They had dome nuts.

my guess is that people put thick washers on when they removed the USA spacers and the bolts stuck up too high - so they put thick washers on so the cap nuts would work
